Ben Chilwell will stay in Chelsea, unless a new club arrives with a window in late January that can revive the career of the England Left Back.
Sources say that Chilwell is not close to leaving the blues, for whom he has only appeared once this season – as a replacement in the Carabao Cup victory at League Two Barrow in September.
The 28-year-old Englishman has continued to train in Cobham to maintain fitness, but with nothing in line, he is now confronted with a full season without meaningful First team of football.
Chelsea had hoped to find a loan this month to give him a regular playing time between now and the end of the season.
He was omitted from their FA Cup victory at League Two Morecambe three weeks ago, because the blues did not want to risk any injury while trying to find a new home.
With Chilwell in line to stay, Chelsea must now be confronted with him to try again to sell him again in the summer. They did not do this before when they succeeded in getting others in their so-called 'bump team' to new clubs, including Raheem Sterling on a season loan on Arsenal.
Manager Enzo Maresca has decided that Chilwell is not his type of full back and that it is unlikely that that posture will change if he stays.
Although they are linked to Crystal Palace, who lost Trevoh Chalobah when he was recalled by Chelsea, Mail Sports understands that there is nothing in that speculation.
Chilwell has been a Chelsea player since August 2020 when he arrived from Leicester City in a £ 50 million deal.
Since then he has made 107 performances for the Stamford Bridge Club and scored nine goals. However, he only presented in 13 Premier League matches since the start of last season, with his most recent top-flight outing back in April 2024.
Chilwell signed a contract extension in April 2023 and his current deal was only canceled in June 2027.
