Ben Chilwell offered Chelsea escape route this month by European giants

Unwanted Chelsea star Ben Chilwell may be offered a new way out of Stamford Bridge before the end of the transfer window.

The full-back, who achieved Champions League glory with the team in 2021, has been on the edge of the tournament since the arrival of Enzo Maresca at the club. Chilwell was left out of first-team training as the west London side attempted to facilitate his transfer in the final window.

The 28-year-old has a contract until 2027 after signing an extension with the club in 2023, but has not featured for the club this season outside of the 45 minutes against Barrow in September. The only other side Chilwell has put together is when the Blues made their Carabao Cup exit to Newcastle.

However, Borussia Dortmund could offer club and player some salvation. According to reports, the German giants are interested in making a move for Chilwell after their attempt to land Renato Veiga failed.

Veiga, who Chelsea signed this summer, is looking for more first-team football and will be loaned out to Juventus before the end of the month. This has made Chilwell a potential option, although his £190,000-a-week salary could still pose a problem.

However, Chelsea and Dortmund have previously had success negotiating a deal for a full-back. Just twelve months ago, Ian Maatsen left West London for the Westfalenstadion on loan.

Everton and Leicester have also been linked with a move to Chilwell this month. The Blues are said to be demanding £25m for a permanent transfer but could accept £20m.

Chelsea boss Maresca admitted earlier this month that he is ashamed of the position Chilwell has been left in. However, the Italian seemed convinced that opportunities would not come.

“Because players want to play more, there are probably opportunities for them to leave,” Maresca said. But Ben has been great. I have to say he's been great.

“Very professional, works hard. I'm ashamed of this situation, but in terms of behavior he has been very good.”

Maresca added: “First of all because it is my choice. And because I see Malo Gusto, Reece James or Marc Cucurella doing different types of work during the competition.

“I think Chilwell is a top full-back who does his job up and down and has had the opportunity to win titles and play in the national team in the past, but I struggle to see Ben doing other things. “
