‘Big success’… Tom Aspinall teases ‘big news coming’ following a meeting with UFC brass after UFC 309 main event

Following Jon Jones' emphatic third-round finish of Stipe Miocic last Saturday in the UFC 309 main event, interim champion Tom Aspinall waited with bated breath for Jones to recognize him as his next challenge.

Despite being the incumbent interim champion of the heavyweight division, Tom Aspinall had to watch Jon Jones defend his undisputed title against Stipe Miocic in the UFC 309 main event last Saturday.

Earlier this week, Aspinall labeled the title fight as “the most controversial title fight ever” after the reaction it received from the UFC fanbase.

Tom Aspinall teases 'big news is coming' after meeting with UFC brass

The British heavyweight played a role as a backup for the main event, but he wasn't needed as both 'Bones' and Miocic made it to the scale and then onto fight night.

With that, Aspinall took a front row seat and watched as Jones successfully defended his heavyweight title with an impressive finish in the third round.

Throughout fight week, Jones had courted even more controversy as he continued to dismiss Aspinall as his next challenge, claiming he would fight Alex Pereira or retire from the UFC.

However, in his Octagon interview with Joe Rogan, the 37-year-old champion revealed that he has chosen not to retire and may not give the fans what they want by subsequently unifying the title against Aspinall.

Shortly afterwards, the 31-year-old Brit went backstage to meet with UFC CEO Dana White and Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell.

“I'm going to announce this press conference (post-fight press conference) and I'll come out right away and talk to you guys, okay?” White told Aspinall before heading to the post-fight presser.

White then continued to tell the media in attendance that if the main event of UFC 309 told him anything, it's that he's definitely not picking a fight between Pereira and Jones, confirming that Aspinall should be the next fight.

“Okay, we just finished, it's 3:43 am now, just met with Dana and the other UFC brass, Hunter Campbell, and um, good luck to all and we'll see you next time, big news coming up! Aspinall said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Jon Jones goes back on his word and continues to tease Aspinall's fight

Even though the UFC and Aspinall are both on the same page regarding his next fight for the undisputed heavyweight title, Jones continues to throw a spanner in the works.

At the post-fight press conference, the 37-year-old claimed he should be paid a 'f*ck you amount' if he considers fighting Aspinall.

“I'm not really worried about the Tom fight, I'm really worried about the Pereira fight. That's what I want to do and I think if the UFC wants me back, that's the fight they need to make, that's what I want.

“A very, very high number (I would have to give to fight Aspinall), that's for sure… I want to be compensated to the point where if I win or lose it really doesn't matter,” Jones continued in the match. presser after the fight.
