Birmingham City 2-3 Newcastle United: Willock brace decides FA Cup thriller

Joe Willock scored two goals and one controversial strike Newcastle United the FA Cup fifth round reached an exciting 3-2 victory over League One-leaders Birmingham City.

The EFL Cup finalists came to the right side of a classic cup variety at St. Andrew's, although they had to do things in the hard way.

Only 43 seconds had passed when Birmingham took the lead. Keshi Anderson kept a corner alive on the back post and the volley of Ethan Laird took a huge deflection of Callum Wilson before he found the roof of the net.

Nick Pope saved a good salvation to thwart Jay Stansfield, when Newcastle in bizarre conditions in the 21st minute.

Willock played William Osula's cross goal, only for Bailey Peacock-Farrell to claw it off the goal line. Willock then skipped the rebound, only for the linesman to indicate that his first attempt had exceeded the border.

With goal line technology that is not in use until the fifth round of the competition, the goal was, despite the fact that repetitions was unclear.

Five minutes later, Newcastle was Vooruit via another Scrappy goal, Wilson Pourde inside after Osula had blocked his own effort up close with his standing leg.

But Birmingham recovered parity five minutes before half -time, Tomoki Iwata Rangende A beautiful strike in the right corner from the edge of the box.

There was less TargetMouth promotion in a second half that threatened to cook occasionally, until Willock hit the decisive goal for eight minutes in time.

The cuts of Sean Longstaff was charged, but it was kindly deflected in Willock's path on the right side of the box, and he made no mistake with his finish.

Data Debrief: Newcastle goes through Cup Success

Only three days after their EFL Cup Semi-Final Triumph over Arsenal, the Magpies of Eddie Howe came through a great fear of putting their name in the hat for the fifth round draw.

After reaching the quarterfinals last season, Newcastle has reached the fifth round of the FA Cup in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the first time in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

In the meantime, Birmingham bends out after they have seen their undefeated stripe of 18 games over all the competitions, while they have not succeeded in winning their last 11 FA Cup matches against Premier League opposition.
