Birmingham City promoted from League One to Sky Bet Championship

Birmingham City has been reduced to the Sky Bet Championship.

The blues suffered relegation on the last day of the championship last season and returned to League One for the first time in 29 years.

But they will return to the second level of English football next season after they have been won 2-1 in Peterborough on Tuesday evening.

Birmingham on course to make League One History

It has been a cruise for promotion for Birmingham City most of the season. They have lost all the campaign of only three games and can be set to break the record for most victories and most points in the third layer.

The record for points is currently from Wolves, who built 103 in 2013/14.

As it looks now, Birmingham has 95 points after 40 games. They were still able to achieve a maximum of 113 points this season and only have to take nine points from their last six games to break the record.

Birmingham has so far also has 29 victories this season. The record in the third level is 32 wins, set by Aston Villa in 1971/72. The blues must win four of their last six games to beat that.

Can they beat the overall points record?

A third-level blues cruise, but can they go back-to-back?

Sky Sports EFL -Editor Simeon Gholam:

“That is the positivity that this season has turned around St. Andrew's, it is easy to forget that this is a club that had just suffered an almost -historical relegation to League One – their first spell in the third layer for almost 30 years.

“Errors were made last season, especially with regard to the recruitment of management, but the new owners worked hard to rebuild the relationship between club and fans who had disappeared in the previous era.

“Although the owners have made clear their long -term plans to rejuvenate the club and the area, they have not forgotten the short term. St Andrew's has gained a new life of life and the place feels floating again.

“Of course, winning competitions also helped. A club that had spent the best part of a decade in the championship in the championship has come to promotion in League One.

“A lot of money has also been spent on the play team: £ 15 million+ on Jay Stansfield, for example, an unprecedented costs for a League One club. But the gamble has paid off, in the hope that they collected a team that could immediately try to compete in the championship.

“It is not long since we have seen Ipswich back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League reach. There is a growing feeling among the blues that is something similar on the horizon.”
