Bompastor was protecting Chelsea players in ‘frustrating’ West Ham draw

Sonia Bompastor was frustrated after he had admitted a late level against West Ham United in the Super League for women, but emphasized the need to protect her Chelsea players.

Maika Hamano and Aggie Beever-Jones had set the blues to move eight points clearly at the top of the rankings, but the hammers responded before the break.

Shekiera Martinez reduced the shortage in the 43rd minute before she went home the equal goal in the first minute of the second half of the stopping time to get the visitors a draw.

In the result, Chelsea dropped this campaign in the competition for the first time, while it was the first time in 90 WSL matches that the blues did not win a top flight competition when he led through more than one goal.

Prior to the kick-off, Bompastor made seven changes on the side that completed their Sensational Champions League-Comback against Manchester City, and the Chelsea boss explained its reasoning for wholesale changes.

“It is clearly frustrating,” reflected bompastor after the draw. “I think if you analyze the game – although I have not yet viewed the game – I think we have created many opportunities. In the first half, especially in the first 30 minutes, we might have scored three or four goals.

“I think if we could do that, especially in the first 30 minutes, the game would be over. But again, I think I have already said that in some earlier games, if you can't be clinical enough, just give some hope to the opposition, especially in the last 15 minutes of the first half.

“We dropped the intensity a bit and admitted the goal because we were not involved enough of a slaughter. And the second half was not good enough in terms of performance on our part.”

Bompastor added that after four debilitating matches with Man City in recent weeks it was the key to consider the well -being of players against West Ham on Sunday.

Together with those seven changes that were made before the competition, Captain Millie Bright and Erin Cuthbert were made during the break.

Although the result did not go to their advantage, Bompastor was in her decision to make those replacements and said: “I have no regrets.

“My job is to make sure that we just try to win every game, but in the back of my mind, even after this really intense block, I tried to protect some players, because it is important to think about their health.

'I think if you look at Millie [Bright]She played every minute in every game in this block. I think that today was probably also a danger to her to stay on the field. She was just exhausted.

“This game was a quick change [after Thursday]. I think people sometimes do not realize it, but if you play the game that we played on Thursday with a quick change and the emotions that the players lived on the field, I think in terms of mental and physical aspects. “
