Aitana Bonmati said she is back to her best after the lead role in Friday's 2-0 win over hosts Switzerland who brought Spain to the semi-final of the Euro 2025 of women.
Two -time balloon d'Or winner Bonmati was appointed player of the game in Bern in her second start at the tournament after recovering a viral meningitis that briefly threatened her chances in the euros.
“Yes, today I felt 100% physically. It was an intense 90 minutes, which I am used to, so I am happy,” Bonmati told reporters.
“I didn't know if the meningitis would be a problem for the entire tournament, I worked hard to be ready as quickly as possible and now I have my reward.”
Bolmati played the pass from which Athenea del Castillo broke the brave Swiss resistance in the 66th minute in the Wankdorf stage and was the key to the Spanish patient ownership game.
“I wanted to enjoy and feel like a football player, confident and full of energy. I suffered something that was outside of my control, but I overcome it and I am proud that I turned it around.”
