The former English star was expected to start Tonight for Milan against Napoli.
Allegedly, Loftus-Cheek felt serious abdominal pains in the team hotel in Naples, according to Football Italia.
Doctors sent him to the local hospital, whose tests confirmed acute appendicitis with the need to undergo an emergency operation.
