Brentford 4-2 Newcastle: Thomas Frank’s side keep unbeaten home record intact

Brentford kept their unbeaten home record in the Premier League intact with another thrilling win at the Gtech Community Stadium, beating Newcastle 4-2 on Saturday.

During this season's matches at Gtech Community Stadium, there has been an average of five goals per match in this fixture. There was something in the air in West London as the goals were scored again on a blustery afternoon in the capital.

In the eighth minute, Christian Norgaard's drilled pass was plucked out of the air by Bryan Mbeumo, who swept into Lewis Hall before working his way into the penalty area and sending a left-footed shot past Nick Pope into the top corner.

In a hectic start to the match, the lead lasted just three minutes and 17 seconds. Jacob Murphy darted into the penalty area and his shot across goal fell to Alexander Isak, who finished smartly to level the score for the visitors.

After Isak was denied a second by a brilliant recovery from Mark Fleken, Brentford regained the lead when Yoane Wissa pounced on Harvey Barnes' loose pass before curling the ball past Pope and into the back of the net.

A few minutes later, however, it was the Newcastle fans who were celebrating again. Three minutes and 32 seconds later to be precise, when Brentford once again failed to hold on to their lead. Barnes took advantage of some poor defending to make up for his mistake, firing a low shot past Fleken into the bottom corner.

There had been five or more goals scored in each of the previous four league games at Gtech Community Stadium and this match would follow suit. Fleken's long free-kick eluded everyone except Nathan Collins, who showed great composure to restore Brentford's lead.

And this time the home side held on to their lead before extending it in the 90th minute through substitute Kevin Schade to secure a big win: a fourth straight league victory on home turf. With the three points, Thomas Frank's team rises to sixth place in the standings, as their exciting season continues.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are now without a win in four games as they failed to build on Wednesday's impressive run against league leaders Liverpool. Eddie Howe's team is in a disappointing twelfth place in the league after a fifth defeat of the season.
