Thomas Frank insists that Brentford has plenty to play against Wolves on the last day of the Premier League season, although their European hope is on a thread.
Brentford lost a Topsy-Turvy West London Derby against Fulham last Sunday 3-2, after he led 2-1 in their last home outing of the season.
That result, in combination with Brighton's 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Monday, makes the bees big outsiders to finish eighth, which can still be enough for Conference League Football.
Brentford has to win in Molineux on Sunday and hope that Brighton loses in Tottenham.
They only get a chance of 11.6% to climb in the eighth, ninth ending in 44.9% of the last day simulations of the opta-super computer. They end 10th in 35.1% and 11th in 8.4%.
Brentford's Record Premier League finish finished ninth in 2022-23, and with both Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa on 19 goals for the campaign, there are also individual awards to hunt.
“Everything is on. We will go into the last game. Even if we end the top 10, it is an incredible performance of this club and this team,” Frank said after the Fulham loss.
“We will do everything we can to win at Wolves. You are invested in standing and smiling, but burns inside you. I hate to lose.
“We can still end the eighth – that would be our highest in the Premier League. We have two players on 19 goals, there are so many positives.”
In the meantime, wolves cannot climb higher than 14th on the last day, but will like to prevent them from preventing them from ending up as low as the 17th Dalen-Ze 14th in 57.8% of the simulations of the last day.
They were beaten 4-2 on Tuesday by FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, with a third consecutive defeat that Vorror Pereira Furious left behind.
“Of course we have to show our best face. We had three months at a very good level and we have to play at our level,” he said.
“We are not a team that can relax. To compete here, to compete against teams such as Brighton, such as Crystal Palace, such as Brentford, we must be focused on our best level.
“We have to play with dedication, play with the team spirit, not make mistakes, offer gifts for the opponent, and this is why I am not happy.
“I hope to see my team. My team is a team with organization, tactical adulthood and team spirit and ambition.”
Players to watch
Wolves – Jorgen Strand Larsen
Seven from Strand Larsen's 14 Premier League goals in his debut campaign for Wolves have come in his last eight performances.
Since the beginning of March, the Norway -International has been the most productive player in the competition, prior to Ebereechi Eze and Wissa on six goals each.
Brentford – Bryan Mbeumo
Both Mbeumo and Wissa have 19 Premier League goals for Brentford this season, while both have found the net in the same match eight times in 2024-25.
If they both score in Molineux, they would be the first duo that 20 or more Premier League goals score for the same team in a season since Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in 2018-19 for Liverpool (each scored 22).
With swirling transfer speculation, this could be the last outing of Mbeumo for Brentford and he will be determined to go high if that is the case.
Match forecast – Draw
Brentford has interspersed between winning (three times) and losing (three times) their last league match in each of the last six seasons, with 4-2 falling against Newcastle United in the past term.
They can feel that this time they get a victory, then, especially against a Wolves team that fears the last day of match.
Wolves lost their last competition match in each of the last seven seasons due to a total score of 19-2, with that run starting in their championship promotion campaign in 2017-18.
They last finished a campaign on a winning memorandum under Paul Lambert in 2016-17 and beat Preston North End with 1-0.
They also lost their last match in nine of their 10 campaigns as a Premier League side, with the exception of a 2-1 win over Sunderland in 2009-10.
Perhaps a high scoring draw can be ahead. Both Wolves' (F53 A68) and Brentford's (F65 A56) Premier League matches have seen 121 goals this season – only Liverpool's (125) and Tottenham's (124) competitions have produced more.
