Bruno Fernandes is a “real captain” branded after his miserable response to winning the Premier League Summer Series Trophy.
United pulled 2-2 with Everton to remain unbeaten in the preseason and to win the American tournament-that also contained West Ham and Bournemouth.
But after an overwhelming show from United, skipper Fernandes looked less than excited after they had presented their trophy.
The Portuguese playmaker, 29, gathered the silverware, shocked to his teammates, gave them a little nod to join him and Sulkily's hamster on the “winners”, even refused to lift it.
But Man Utd -fans loved the gloomy reaction, with one who took X to write: “Huge fan of how Bruno acted here.
“Not even fake trophy lift. The right captain with a winning mentality.”
Other supporters responded with “clumsy” and “cold” emojis, as a result of the torn view of winning the trophy for the season.
Fernandes scored, put on an assist and won the man of the game for the second time in three games during the 2-2 draw.
But the captain was frustrated after he had seen his side twice to throw away a winning position – to call his teammates “lazy”.
After the game, Fernandes raged: “Our performance was not the best off the ball … We were a bit lazy.
“We have to avoid that because the laziness that you can pay at any time.
“It improves. It is not where we want it to be.”
Fernandes then seemed to criticize club heads when he demanded that they signed more talent for the under -performing team.
The captain of the United continued: “I don't want to dig up anyone, but it was clear that we were clear that we needed more competition for the players who were here.
“We needed more quality to let everyone perform a little more, to have to do more to get to the starting XI.
“I think that is what the club and the manager are trying to do, and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.”
Fernandes insisted that the club never had to relax for a moment because they are so “worldwide” – and that means that the side returns to the top of English football after a terrible 2024-25 saw them 15th and tropheel -free.
He said: “Every small detail is important. In this football club you can't do anything wrong on the field and outside the field because it is too big worldwide and you are punished.
“You get the attention of the media and your fans and you have to be aware of that.
“In this club the culture was winning here and we have to bring it back. Not only the winning mentality we need, and I think that has always been there, but if you don't win, you don't show it.
“The club tries to improve other things. The facilities have improved, we have tried to improve the team, the staff, many things.
“Many people had problems with this, many people who had worked in the club for many years had to go.
“The fans pay more for tickets, and we appreciate all the trouble they have put for us, so now it is up to us to pay it back on the field.”
