Bruno Fernandes broke his silence about his decision to encourage a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia to stay in Manchester United.
The captain of the Red Devils has rejected the chance of more than trifling his wages after being approached by the Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal about a summer switch.
Fernandes, 30, has now revealed that he rejected the move after a phone call from the Al Hilal President and a chat with United Boss Ruben Amorim.
Speaking in his press conference while he was in international service at Portugal, he said: “There was that possibility, the president of Al Hilal called me a month ago to ask
“There was a waiting time on my part to think about what the future would entail. I would be open to it, if Manchester United thought it was my time.
“I spoke with Mr. Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk to me. I spoke with the club, which was not willing to sell, only if I really wanted to leave.
“We never talked about money; that was all handled by my agent, not me.
“I spoke with my family to understand if that was what I wanted for my future. It was actually my wife who asked me – I never said yes or no. She has set my professional priorities for everything else.
“It would have been an easy step. I had Ruben Neves and Joao Annalo, two people with whom I have a great friendship.
“But I want to stay at the highest level, play in large competitions, because I still feel capable of. I want to keep being happy, I am still very passionate about this sport and I am happy with my decision.”
Fernandes had received a one -week deadline by Saudi officials to reflect on a tax -free contract of three years in the value of £ 200 million.
The Portuguese playmaker is supposed to stay at the highest level in Europe and does not see Hilal as the right move for his career.
Fernandes has been the striking executor of Man Utd in a season in which the club passed one of the worst campaigns in their history- with the highlight being the defeat of the Europa League against Tottenham.
After that European shame, Fernandes said: “I have always been honest. I have always said that I will be here until the club tells me it is time to go.
“I would like to do more to be able to bring the club the great days.
“On the day the club thinks I'm too much or it's time to separate, football is that way, you never know. But I have always said it and I keep my word in the same way.
“If the club thinks it's time to separate because they want to come up with some money or whatever, it is what it is and football is sometimes so.”
The current conditions of Fernandes at Old Trafford Run until the summer of 2027.
Man Utd has already started their transfer activities in an attempt to strengthen their team for the next season.

The Old Trafford-Outfit has agreed to pay a fee of £ 62.5 million for the Brazilian, 26, who will put Pen on paper over a five-year-old deal.
While Brentford seems to be to become a Bryan Mbeumo to become the next new arrival in front of Ruben Amorim.
Mbeumo, 25, has reportedly decided that he wants to become a member of United because of Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham – who are also considered enthusiastic about the Cameroonian.
