Manchester United offering silverware prior to their Europa League semi-final Clash to Athletic Bilbao, but Bruno Fernandes said that the trophy would not hide their gloomy campaign
Captain Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United has admitted that it has won the Europa League this season “will save nothing” after their gloomy campaign. The Red Devils have reached the semi -final against Athletic Bilbao and will be desperate on silverware that would also guarantee them a place in the Champions League.
The tournament has been a radiant light for United in another painful season that has been their worst in the history of Premier League. United is currently 14th in the table after losing 15 games, with Ruben Amorim struggling to lift the direction after his arrival in October.
United came close to leaving the competition in the quarterfinals after he went to Lyon 4-2 on Old Trafford with just a few minutes to go, he set an incredible three goals in the last seven minutes of extra time to claim a dramatic 5-4 victory and go to the last four.
But although there should be some excitement about United's chance of adding another trophy to their cabinet, Fernandes Downbeat was on the prospect because he insisted that it will not hide their failures this season.
“I would not say that it is a reward, I think it will just be successful in terms of the Europa League,” said the Portuguese midfielder. “It is very important to do that, to get the silverware this season. But it won't save anything.”
United has a tough task for them after he had been pulled against La Liga -Kant Bilbao – who would play in their home stadium if they reached the final, add an even greater incentive for them against Amorim.
And Fernandes has admitted that United is confronted with a difficult match against a motivated opponent and said they should do their homework on the Spanish outfit.
He said, “They have the final at home when they beat us, so it will be really difficult. You have to be prepared.”
This season Fernandes has so often been the Savior of United after wearing the team with 18 goals and 14 assists – including five goals and three assists in the Europa League.
But while the 32-year-old has been stimulated, he wants the same levels of his teammates and he insisted on Rasmus Hojlund to keep striving for improvement after he had yielded a stop-time equalizer in the 1-1 draw in Bournemouth on Sunday.
“Strikers are about scoring goals and we all know that he knows the responsibility to be the number 9 of United and he has to score goals, that is the question of a club like this, not just for him, but for everyone else,” Fernandes told Mutv.
“Everyone who plays here the qualities to get into the box to score goals has to do it. Today it was Rasmus, and everyone is very happy to see a striker scoring and hopefully it will give him a little push for what is coming.”
