Bruno Fernandes insists he is ‘UPSET’ by Man United’s inconsistency after draw

Bruno Fernandes has admitted he was 'upset' after Manchester United's brilliant performance in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool, as the club's captain questioned why the team is not consistently producing the same performances.

United traveled to Anfield with the widely accepted expectation that it could be another dismantling of the Premier League leaders, but instead produced arguably their best performance of the season.

Goals from Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo either side of Cody Gakpo and strikes from Mohamed Salah sealed a point for the visitors, with Bruno Fernandes playing a key role in each of United's goals.

However, despite the feel-good factor in the immediate aftermath of the match, United remain in the bottom half of the standings, climbing above West Ham into 13th place on goal difference alone.

Fernandes appears to be finally rediscovering his best form under Amorim's guidance but was left frustrated at full-time as he demanded United show consistency by repeating the kind of performance that almost saw them claim a late victory against Liverpool.

'We have rightly been criticized, we have lost too many points. Even today we cannot be happy with the draw,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.

'I think it was a very good result, we could have even won the match at the end. It's a fair result. I'm angry because if we show this against Liverpool, why can't we do this every week?

'Finally, I did a decent job overall. We need a lot more of ourselves to get more out of this season.

“It's been here, but it only came to today's game. Now we have an FA Cup match against Arsenal which is going to be very tough again. We want to be in that final again. I will probably be more worried about Southampton after this performance,” he added.

United had arguably the better chances for 90 minutes against Liverpool, with Harry Maguire firing a golden scoring chance over the bar with the final kick of the match, although there were questions over whether he was offside.

Despite his miss, it was the most complete display of Amorim's reign yet and Fernandes tried to rally his teammates by demanding more as the club looked to climb away from the relegation zone.

'I think you can always do more. We know how tough it is to play against Liverpool. Gravenberch is one of the best in the competition,” Fernandes continued.

“Today was about really putting effort into the game and playing with passion. You have the tactics, but we have to put in the effort.

'We can't stop here. We have to deal with this frustration in the next matches. This must be our level. We have to do it every week.'

United and Fernandes now get the chance to show whether their run at Anfield was a one-off or whether it is a sign of things to come when they travel to Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
