The Captain Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United has opened for the lucrative proposal he gave by Al-Hilal to exchange the Premier League for Saudi Arabia this summer
Bruno Fernandes says that Manchester United has made it clear that they did not have to sell him after interest from Al-Hilal and that the midfielder would have the last word about a possible movement.
Fernandes, 30, has rejected a lucrative proposal to change the Premier League for Saudi Arabia after he was resolved. Their offer, reportedly worth £ 100 million, coincided with the end of a disastrous season for Manchester United, which ended in the 15th.
United wants to rebuild their team this summer, but there will be no extensive transfers funds available because of the failure of the club to qualify for the Champions League.
As such, the club is expected to consider serious offers for all players because they offer to give Ruben Amorim Scope to shake up the team – but Fernandes stands that United told him that they did not have to sell him while he weighed his decision.
Speaking in a press conference prior to Portugal's UEFA Nations League semi-final draw with Germany, Fernandes revealed: “The president of Al Hilal called me a month ago to ask me [a move].
“There was a waiting time for me to think about the future. As I always said, I would be willing to do it as Manchester United that thought.
“I spoke with coach Ruben Amorim who was very annoying during that period not to go! The club said they would not be willing to sell me, only if I wanted to leave that it was not a financial issue.”
Speculation about the future of Fernandes has grown in recent weeks, especially after reports that the Saudi Pro League outfit had set him a deadline to decide on a move.
But he decided to reject the proposal after he had spoken with his wife, and added that he wants to continue to play at an elite level.
“It was a very ambitious proposal,” Fernandes added. “The president was a fantastic person. We have never discussed the amount [initially]. With my agent? Naturally. Then I spoke with my wife and family and she asked me what my personal goals were in my career. She was someone who always supported me a lot.
“It was an easy move, even at family level. I had Joao Canneo there, my children are used to playing with him in the national team, we have a great friendship.
“But I want to keep myself at the highest level, play in the big competitions, and I feel able to.”
