Saudi Pro-League Club Al-Hilal was willing to offer Bruno Fernandes a deal of £ 750,000 a week-in a package worth £ 200 million for the player-to participate in this summer club World Cup with them
Bruno Fernandes insists that he is happy at Manchester United after moving a relocation of £ 300 million to Saudi Arabia after conversations with his wife. Saudi Pro-League Club Al-Hilal was willing to offer the Portugal star a £ 750,000 a week-in-in-in-a package worth the player-to join them for this summer's club.
They were ready to pay more than £ 100 million to convince United to sell. But United Captain Fernandes informed them that he would not take the step after he had discussed it with his family.
The 30-year-old midfielder is now expected to stay in United, where he earns £ 250,000 a week. “There was a chance,” said the Portugal International.
“The [Al-Hilal] President called me and asked if I wanted to go there. Manchester United did not want to sell me. They don't need the money.
“There was a waiting time on my part to think about what the future would entail. I would be open to it, if Manchester United thought it was my time. I spoke to Mr. Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk to me.
“I spoke with the club, which was not willing to sell, only if I really wanted to leave. We never talked about money; that was all treated by my agent, not me.”
The wife of Fernandes, Ana Pinho, was crucial in the decision to stay despite the opportunity to join international teammates in the Middle East and make enormous money.
“I spoke with my family to understand if that was what I wanted for my future,” Fernandes said to Germany before Portugal's Nations League Semi-Final.
“It was actually my wife who asked me – I never said yes or no. She took my professional priorities for everything else. It would have been an easy step. I had Ruben Neves and Joao Annulo, two people with whom I have a great friendship.
“But I want to stay at the highest level, play in large competitions, because I still feel capable of. I want to keep being happy, I am still very passionate about this sport and I am happy with my decision.”
Fernandes wants to play at the highest level in Europe and remains part of the rebuilding of Ruben Amorim in Old Trafford after a horror campaign, which ends 15th in the Premier League.
Former United Captain Gary Neville said: “I don't think anyone has doubted his dedication to Manchester United. He is consistent, his chances created, goals, assists have been sensational.
“The fact that he wants to stay, the fact that he wants to pass this and want to come out the other side, because at the end of this season it would have been easy for him to say,” Look, I am ready here, “will make him more of Manchester United fans loved.
“To reject that money at a point where Manchester United is on their lowest ebb and say: 'No, I want to fight through this, I want to see it through the other side, I want to come out and achieve things,” I think it says a lot about him as a person, as a character.
