A former Premier League manager has issued a brutal judgment this season about the wrestling team of Man United, with the argument that none of them would come somewhere near the starting XI during the golden years of the club under Sir Alex Ferguson.
He excluded Bruno Fernandes as the closest to making it, but argued that even he would be only fit to put cones and hand out bibs.
This season, the Red Devils will blow almost every Premier League 'worst' in club history out of the water.
In the last full season of Erik ten Hag in Old Trafford, his side registered their lowest finish in the perished top flight (eighth). But that record will be broken a year later, with United Songishing in the 14th under Ruben Amorim.
Veteran manager Harry Redknapp argued that nowadays United is only a large club, while they keep driving on the coattails of their earlier success.
He compared United's Stars from the past with their current group of players and argued that Amorim does not have the staff he needs to reverse the fortunes in Old Trafford.
'I love the Ruben Amorim manager, but it will take years to turn [Man United] Round, if it can be done at all. It has only become a great club in name, “Redknapp told the sun.
'You would look at the United States of Fergie's Day and see superstars everywhere. Amorim would only keep one.
'Bruno Fernandes is the closest and even more than a place in the team. He would not have a prayer to make the team.
“Who would you drop? Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Roy Keane, Paul Ince, even Nicky Butt or Darren Fletcher? No chance.
“If Teddy Sherdingham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had trouble getting a game, Fernandes would not go beyond the putting down of the cones and handing out bibs.”
Redknapp – who managed nine different parties in his 30 -year management career – also noted that he would have a much better record against United if he were faced with the current team, led by club captain Fernandes.
He added: “And I tell you what – if Bruno and Co had been to United when I seemed, I would know everything about winning at Old Trafford.”
Fernandes is the topcorer of United and assistant provider in the Premier League this season (six and seven respectively), and has won some essential points in recent months.
Nevertheless, the Portuguese midfielder has come under heavy fire among heavy fans and experts, with Roy Keane a few weeks ago focusing the most on Fernandes.
Keane did not accuse the 30-year-old of being 'a hunter' and claim that 'talent is not enough' to appeal to the club.
But Amorim jumped to the defense of Fernandes, although he acknowledged that the player can sometimes come under the skin of people.
Asked about Keane's comments, he said: “I heard about that, I have a different opinion. Roy Keane has great standards of his time. I think my opinion is more important than Roy Keane because I am the coach.
'Bruno is really important for us in the club, especially for me. He plays well in a difficult context. He always wants responsibility.
'I know that as a captain sometimes does things, sometimes with his arms, criticizing the teammates. It is especially a bit of frustration. He wants to win and sometimes it is difficult to deal with that frustration. '
