Manchester United still has to match Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, with the bees more than the £ 62.5 million requirements they paid earlier this summer for Wolves star Matheus Cunha
Bryan Mbeumo is increasingly frustrated by the failure of Manchester United to agree a deal with Brentford. The attacker has made it clear that he wants to become a member of United this summer, after he has rejected the chance to follow the former bee boss Thomas Frank to Tottenham.
Brentford wants more than the £ 62.5 million United to have paid wolves for Matheus Cunha and has rejected two bids so far. United now weighs a third offer for Mbeumo, which scored 20 goals last season in 38 Premier League matches.
And, as reported for the first time by De Standaard, both Mbeumo and Brentford have become frustrated by the slow progress. Brentford is happy with their attitude and the feeling that it is supported by the prices that are asked both and paid by clubs, for players in comparable positions, in particular Noni Madueke and Anthony Elanga.
Arsenal is interested in signing Madueke, in which Chelsea appreciates the English international on more than £ 50 million, while Newcastle has agreed a deal worth £ 55 million to sign Elanga from Nottingham Forest.
Brentford believes that the compensation they demand for Mbeumo, compared to the aforementioned trio, is more than fair.
Director Football Phil Giles recently spoke about the future of Mbeumo and suggested that he could eventually stay in Brentford. “He had a fantastic season,” Giles said BBC Sport last month.
“We were expecting great interest in him, we had great interest in him. He has his ideas about where he wants to take his career, of course he does that – he is good within his rights to do that. We are constantly in dialogue with him and representatives about it.
“As it now looks that we have no agreement for him to leave. It is not impossible that next season he still is a Brentford player if we agree that he will stay. It must be the right deal for Brentford, every club will tell you that.
“If it's not good deal, why should we do it? He is definitely one of our best players, if not our best player, and we need our best players. There is no harm to keep your best players.”
However, Brentford has agreed a deal to sell club captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal for around £ 10 million.
“We have been in conversations with Arsenal for up to 10 days last week,” Giles confirmed. “As it looks now, it is not yet complete, but it goes in that direction. If that happens for him then fantastic, he has earned it.
“He has been a brilliant captain for us. Let's see how that story ends, but we are quite open about that interest there.”
