It doesn't look like Barcelona will be buying a midfielder in the near future, both due to their finances and the breakout of Marc Casado and the return of Marc Bernal at the start of next season. One of the players Hansi Flick reportedly liked was Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller.
Stiller, dubbed Toni Kroos' long-term replacement and shot to fame last season during Bundesliga runners-up Stuttgart, has become a German international in the past year. Flick, who obviously keeps a close eye on German football, was impressed. Stiller has explained that he is not concerned about speculation linking him to the Blaugrana.
“Of course there is speculation about possible changes. Sometimes I get asked about it, even in our dressing room. The subject doesn't interest me. It's a bad time to be worrying about that. I am in Stuttgart and that is my only goal.”
“In the football world everything moves very quickly and you have to be very careful what you say. But obviously I imagine myself staying in Stuttgart. I feel the appreciation of the fans and everyone at the club,” he explained to BILD, quoted by Sport.
In any case, Stiller would probably have to pay a high transfer fee with 2.5 years left on his contract and at the age of 23. Barcelona could look for a midfielder next summer if they can find the money, and Frenkie de Jong has been sold for a fee, but that remains a hypothetical terror as things stand.
