West Ham has confirmed the signing of Spits Callum Wilson as a free agent after his departure from Newcastle.
The 33-year-old, who left the magpies at the end of June at the expiry of his contract, signed an annual contract at the London Stadium.
“I am excited to become a member of a huge football club such as West Ham,” he told the club's official website.
“A club that shares a similar passion like mine, hard work, dedication and I also strive for success, so I am happy that I am part of it.
“I am looking forward to the challenge. There is such a talent within the team. And clearly is the Gaffer who is coming in, he makes everyone a team – all in the same direction to achieve the goal that is to end as high as possible in the competition and it is what the fans deserve, what the team deserves and whatever the team quality deserves.”
West Ham -Baas Graham Potter added: “We are delighted to welcome Callum to West Ham United. He is a proven, experienced Premier League striker, with a great working ethics and a fantastic goal record.
“He also has an excellent character and personality, which is such an important factor, and something we put a great emphasis on with our player recruitment.
“We have built a really good spirit and surroundings around the team, and Callum will only strengthen and improve that. He will have a good influence, especially on our young attacking players, and brings leadership qualities.
“I know that Callum is determined to make a really positive contribution to West Ham United, and we are all looking forward to working with him.”
Wilson spent five seasons in St James' Park and scored 49 goals in 130 games for the Magpies and won the EFL Cup with Eddie How's Kant last season.
Wilson, however, had an injury hit campaign in the past term and could not score in one of his 18 Premier League outings for the club.
Before he came to Newcastle, Wilson scored 67 goals in 187 games for Bournemouth. He started his career at Coventry, where he scored 23 goals in 55 performances.
He is the third signing of West Ham of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters.
West Ham makes an approach to Leicester's Hermansen
West Ham has a formal approach to Leicester for goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
The hammers are looking for a keeper after Lukasz Fabianski left when his contract expired in July.
Casper Ankergren is the new goalkeeper coach at West Ham and previously worked with Hermansen near Brondby.
Last season, Hermansen made 27 performances for the Foxes in the Premier League and held a clean slate while relegation to the championship members.
The Leicester contract from Hermansen runs until 2028.
