Capello supportive of Allegri AC Milan return: New signings now needed

After firing Sergio Conukicao last night, it was announced this morning that Allegri had been hired as a new Milan coach. Allegri has returned to Rossonero since his first spell after 11 years.

“It was crucial to send a clear signal to the entire area after an extremely disappointing season. Milan can no longer afford any mistakes, and they started on the right foot,” Capello wrote in his column for La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“I am convinced that (sports director Igli) Tare played a key role in the decision to bet on Max, a coach with experience and personality. With Allegri on the bank I expect to see last season's caprices.

“Before we discuss transfer and tactic, we are concentrating on the immediate impact that Max can have on Milan. First of all we saw on mentality. Last season we saw a team that did everything well for 20 minutes and then switched off.

“Everyone was enthusiastic about attacks, but few made the same efforts when it came to tracing. It will not happen with Allegri, who has always created a coherent environment and a team with a clear goal and balance.”

Top four needed

Capello also said: “In my opinion, Tare and Allegri must agree on technical choices, while CEO Giorgio Furlani must be responsible for approving or rejecting signing sessions based on financial considerations.

“I don't know how far they can go, but I know exactly where to end. In the top four, otherwise it will certainly be another failure.”
