Newcastle ended their 70-year-old trophy-dried in style by beating Premier League Champions-Elect Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
The 2-1 Scorelijn flatted the Reds in truth, with Eddie How's Toon made a sensational version to flatten away league leaders.
Local lad Dan Burn, fresh from his first call-up in England, rose highest to lead his boy's club in the course of the break.
Alexander Isak then doubled Newcastle's lead shortly after the break.
The tone could have further increased their benefits, only for forgotten man Federico Chiesa to give Liverpool a late lifeline at 94 minutes.
After the Reds had not not increased a late comeback, Sunssport's Lloyd Canfield the Liverpool players …
Caoimhin Kelleher – 5
I didn't do much wrong to be honest, but was left with two great finishes from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.
In all honesty for the Irishman, it was not for him that this game could have ended with the Reds in a three or even four goal.
Has been Liverpool's hero so often, like today, but it wasn't this time.
Jarrell Quansah – 5
After being called up for Thomas Tuchel, Jarrell Quansah had the difficult task of replacing the wounded Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right for the Red Men.
Although the young person was defensively solid, he missed the attacking bravery that makes Taa so unique and did not look very comfortable in the role of modern full-back.
Virgil van Dijk – 6
There are plenty of reasons why many consider him the best defender in the world, and one of the best in history, but today he couldn't show them.
His passes always seemed to find a Newcastle player who might be more to their desire than his assets, but anyway, they didn't come out as they usually do.
He was probably the best defender of the Reds on the day, nevertheless he seemed the only one of the group that was able to cope with the physicality and desire of Newcastle.
Ibrahima Konate – 4
Just like Van Dijk from whom he learned, we are so used to seeing the Imperious Frenchman players physically dominating and compiled at the back on the ball.
For some reason it didn't seem to work for him today.
Had a few shaky moments early with the ball at his feet and the running of Isak also caused him a few problems.
Andy Robertson – 5
His experience is as valuable in a game as this, but he looked at the pace today.
Looked like his feet could not keep his football brain completely when he tried to make attacks for the Reds and a few times a few times by Jacob Murphy on the right.
However, made a few extremely valuable blocks defensively, but that was about everything he could offer.
Ryan Gravenberch – 5
For a player of his clear quality, and a midfielder who has been a press -resistant machine for the Reds this season, I remained pretty disappointed to see him surpassed by all three Newcastle trio in the middle.
Had a few nice details and made some vital tackles, but was not as impressive if we have seen him many times this season.
Alexis Mac Allister – 4
Not entirely certain why 5ft 9 in Mac Allister 6FT 6in then marked Burn van Set pieces, but it certainly didn't work.
He was not at his best today, with his passes who tend to be poorly weighed and is physically dominated by his counterparts in black and white.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 4
The most of the Midfield three of Liverpool, Szobo, showed any real intelligence with his passing and calmness on the ball, but could not offer that sharp pass when LFC needed it the most.
No efforts from the range and a lack of all-round innovation on the front foot limited his ability to create opportunities for an extremely militant Newcastle defense.
Mo Salah – 2
Was brilliantly destroyed in the first half by the dynamic defensive duo of Newcastle of the Rapid Tino Livramento and the physical copy Dan Burn.
Eddie Howe seemed to use the same tactics to stop him as PSG used in the Champions League, with a left -sided double up, and sometimes tripled with problems for the Egyptian king.
His balloon d'Or load seems to slide out at the moment after week after week.
Luis Diaz – 3
For a player who has so much to offer, we didn't see anything of the Colombian winger this afternoon.
Before the game you would have seduced his chances of a Kieran Trippier who might not be what he ever was, but the Englishman dominated him in truth on the wing.
Diogo Jota – 3
Was largely not effective for a player of his caliber.
Normally offers a little dynamic about the front line, and although he broke the Newcastle defense a few times with his runs, there was no end product of him in the day.
Replacements:
Darwin Nunez (Diogo Jota, 56) – 4
It was the same old story for Darwin Nunez as what we have seen of him most of the season.
He has the right ideas and comes in good areas, but was unable to be the bank's difference maker for the Redmen when they needed him.
Curtis Jones (Ibrahima Konate, 57) – 6
Injected the game with some energy and looked one of the better players into a red shirt when he came up.
Came closest to get his side back in the game with a powerful strike that was saved well by Nick Pope.
Cody Gakpo (Alexis Mac Allister, 67) – 4
Largely ineffective after emerging, was well prepared by the right side of Newcastle.
Harvey Elliott (Luis Diaz, 74) – 7
Was a Developer from the couch in front of his side, won the ball brilliant from Bruno Guimaraes and slid a nice ball on the path of Chiesa who ended with Aplomb.
Played with the kind of fire and intensity that Liverpool needed, but did not have long enough to give more to his team.
Federico Chiesa (Ryan Gravenberch, 74) – 7 scored the goal that Liverpool gave a spark of hope at death and made it a nervy final five minutes before the Geordies. Seems to have a talent of scoring at Wembley, and could not have done much more after they have come from the bank.
This is how Sunsport's Gary Stonehouse rated every Newcastle star on the day …
Nick Pope – 9
Despite all the worries about his footwork, the stop produced his inner Manuel Neuer in the first half with a great Sweeper-keeper display.
But it was all about his handling after the break when he scored an excellent Save with one hand from Curtis Jones just after the second goal.
Kieran Trippier – 9
Fortunately to get away with the handball in the first half, but showed exactly why he won more than 50 caps for England. Was also his corner where the opener came from.
He may not have had the bracelet, but a real captain of the veteran left back while he refused to give Luis Diaz an inch.
Fabian Schar – 9
The Liverpool attack did not give an inch.
Really composed representation of the Swiss star next to the man of the moment than burn.
Dan Burn – 10
What a week for the dear Big Geordie defender with a first call-up in England and then scored to end the 70-year-old waiting of his boy's club for a big trophy.
The perfect representation of the now legendary tone defender.
Tino Livramento – 9
Absolutely fantastic despite being played from his natural position.
The threat of Mo Salah easily handled and many times ahead, and had a huge hand in the crucial second goal.
Bruno Guimaraes – 9
Brazil -IANT.
The first man to have a trophy for Newcastle lifted since Bob Moncur in 1969 and the boy from Brazil deserved it.
Just like the rest of his teammates, he absolutely gave everything he had and now his name is etched in the tone History forever.
Sandro Tonali – 9
The Italian showed a great engine to bypass the field and ensured that Liverpool's midfield had a zero effect.
Like all his silky death, it showed exactly why Newcastle paid the big dollar for him.
Joelinton – 10
An absolute rock for the magpies in midfield and celebrated every tackle he won as if it were a goal.
Was absolutely everywhere and typed everything about the performance of Toon.
Jacob Murphy – 9
Was always a threat on the right, but his intersection dropped his working speed somewhat down in the opening period.
But he made that with a big assist for Isak to secure his place in the hearts of the Toon Army forever.
Harvey Barnes – 9
Enjoy Jarell Quansah and was a constant pain.
His display is proof of how little Eddie How's side Anthony Gordon missed.
Alexander Isak – 9
Didn't get much of a pinch in the first half, but he only needs one chance and he took it brilliant after the break.
Only a second thanks to a fantastic salvation by Caoimhin Kelleher was denied.
Go build that statue because he has just certified his status as a Newcastle legend.
Replacement
Callum Wilson (on for Isak, 82 minutes) – 6
Continued the great working speed that his fellow striker had produced to see the game.
Joe Willock (on Barnes, 82 minutes) – 7
Ran-and-Ran have come to get his team over the line.
Emil Krafth (on for Murphy, 90 minutes) – NA
