In Sunday's 4-2 win over Sevilla, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti raised eyebrows with his team selection. Despite Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia being available for selection, the Italian coach opted to start Eduardo Camavinga at left back.
Camavinga played in this position several times, but not since the 2022/23 season. According to Relevo, the decision was made by Ancelotti because he is not convinced by Mendy or Garcia.
Mendy in particular has had a very disappointing start to the season. He had a good 2023-24 season, where he was a good starter, but things haven't gone his way in recent months. Garcia has stepped in in recent weeks, but even he has struggled to make an impact.
Real Madrid are set to address their left-back position next summer, with plans to sign Alphonso Davies. However, if he signs a new contract with Bayern Munich instead, no one may arrive.
