Manchester United can help Carlos Baleba to achieve what he wanted to do in his football career.
Baleba has recently been identified as a target to strengthen the midfield of United this summer. At the age of only 21, the Cameroonian, who moved from Lille to Brighton two years ago, has already established himself as one of the most appreciated central players of the Premier League.
The young person is a versatile midfielder who is able to contribute to the field and on paper, at least seems to be precisely the type of player Ruben Amorim's team needs.
Baleba is about to start only his third season in the Premier League, but his ambitions are clear – and United may feel that they can help him reach them.
Baleba spoke with Sky Sports in November and was candid in revealing his goals: “At the end of my career I want an individual title to play and mark a little history like the big midfielders have done before. And then win trophies, many trophies, with my club and my country.”
When asked if that was feasible on the south coast, the midfielder added: “For me there are opportunities everywhere. I can win trophies here with Brighton, I can win trophies at another club.
“My ambition is to just win trophies where I'm going to. Just do that and make the world happy.”
On Tuesday, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that conversations with Brighton are going on, because United tries to understand the asking price of the Seagulls. He added that they do not pursue other goals such as things, although Brighton is said to 'not' do not intend to lower their asking price of more than £ 100 million.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler says that he has 'no fear' for the speculation of the future of Baleba.
“No chance. I don't feel fear,” he said. “I am not afraid of anything, because the only thing we can do is the best version we can be every day, as we can as hard as we can. All other things we cannot influence, so we really have to concentrate on ourselves.
“We certainly cannot spend the money like the big teams, but one of our biggest values is togetherness. And if you stay together, if we try to push our boundaries and increase the boundaries, I am sure we can compete with the big teams.”
But with the enormous reported price tag from Baleba, United may have to do something selling before he can be fixed to a transfer. Baleba has presented the past two seasons in 61 top matches in England.
