Caroline Weir the hero as Real Madrid make Clasico history v Barcelona

Caroline Weir scored twice when Real Madrid claimed a dramatic 3-1 win over Barcelona Femeni in the Lluis Company Olympic Stadium.

The Scotland International stole the spotlight in the final phase when Madrid ended an 18-game Losing Streak against their arch rivals.

Weir placed Madrid at the front in the 87th minute and had her second six minutes after the stopping time to complete the victory.

Alba Redondo had given Madrid the lead in the first half, only for Caroline Graham Hansen to be the same in the 67th minute.

But Weir's late intervention ensured that Madrid had won the very first victory over Barca ever in all competitions, while they became the first ladies team that won a road game against Barca with more than two goals since Rayo Vallecano in September 2012.

It was also the first time that Barca had admitted three goals at home since the formation of Liga F in 2022, while the six shots of Madrid on target were the most that they had allowed their own turf on their own turf during this period.

The defeat ended Barcelona's 10-match winning series over all matches, while Madrid produced a lively response after their embarrassing 5-0 loss for the Catalans in the Spanish Super Cup final of January.

Despite the loss, Barcelona remains at the top of the Leaf F table, with a four-point lead in second place Madrid with seven more games left.

Both teams are now shifting their focus to Midweek Champions League promotion. Reigning champions Barcelona have a 4-1 advantage while they are organizing Wolfsburg on Thursday for the second stage of their quarterfinals draw, while Real Madrid takes a 2-0 lead to the Emirates Stadium for their collision against Arsenal on Wednesday.
