Carragher comes up with new Salah and Van Dijk theory as contracts run down

Liverpool lost two important games in the room of four days when the Carabao Cup defeat from the Reds to Newcastle followed their exit from the Champions League by PSG.

Jamie Carragher has suggested that Liverpool's recent Carabao Cup Final League and the exit of Champions League could have a significant impact on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. The 2-1 loss of the Reds for Newcastle United near Wembley was hot on the heels of their 4-1 penalty shootout defeat against Paris Saint-Germain after a 1-0 loss in the night.

This double setback has given a blow this season to Liverpool's silverware ambitions, especially after their early FA Cup exit in the fourth round with a 1-0 defeat against Plymouth Argyle. This leaves the Premier League as the only trophy they can compete for in the debut season of Arne Slot.

Despite the comfortable leading of the Premier League – 12 points lead in second place Arsenal with nine games left – Club icon Carragher Carragher believes that this CUP competition losses can seriously influence Salah and the contract negotiations of Van Dijk.

The contracts of both important players with Liverpool expire this summer, so that they can have conversations with clubs abroad until the end of the season. Then they become free agents, able to get to every club without Liverpool receiving a fee.

In addition to Trent Alexander-Arnold, also free to leave in the summer transfer window without compensation, they have been a topic of intense discussion behind the scenes of the title of the Reds League.

In an episode of It's Soccer!, Carragher expressed his concern about the loyal duo, in the conviction that the “PR struggle” to have several trophies to fight for a while was on their side. But now the ball is firmly at the court of the club when it comes to negotiating new contract conditions.

The 47-year-old said: “You know what worries me, not from their point of view, more from the point of view of a club-I meant, Van Dijk and Salah almost came out and said they want to stay now, of course they do that.”

When co -hostal Gary Neville was questioned about the accuracy of this statement, Carragher explained: “I mean listening – Mo Salah said he was not offered contracts, right?

“My feeling and my concern is that it kept feeling that Mo Salah and Van Dijk won the PR struggle because Liverpool is top of the competition, they had won every game in the Champions League, they spoke about Trebels, they are going to do this, they will do that and you know that in the past week [this hasn’t happened].

“I hope this is not the case, but perhaps the people of the club go:” Is this a small sign of things to come in the future? Is this Salah not out of shape or is this the future of Salah ' – and if they do not win so much, are they in a stronger negotiating position to say' we want more '?

“I don't know what they are asking for, but is now the club to say: 'Wait a minute, we think you are worth this alone [amount]. I mean you [almost] Won the competition, we didn't win the Champions League, we didn't do that, you didn't win the Ballon d'Or.

“I actually thought, I think this means that the club might not be moving the goal posts at all, maybe a little, if you finally win the competition.”

While the Angel of the defeat of the Carabao Cup and the exit of the Champions League for both players and supporters lingers, Salah and Van Dijk have remained silent about their contracts so far – which may be a positive appearance.

Recently recognized Manager Slot The lack of progress in contract discussions, but mentioned the willingness of the club for each outcome. In February he said: “We have some contractual situations that you probably don't know.

“But Trent, Mo and Virgil have not yet extensive. So we are aware of the fact that we must be sharp and ready for things that can happen.

“My life is mainly in the short term, but we have so many high -quality people in this club who also look at the longer term. You must always be prepared for all the new things that are coming.”
