Carragher compares Arsenal star to Wayne Rooney – ‘He’s got football arrogance’

Jamie Carragher has been blown away by Myles Lewis-Skelly and describes the Arsenal-Jongere as 'whole, very special' after his 'spectacular' version against Real Madrid

Jamie Carragher has praised “very, very special” Myles Lewis-Skelly by saying that the Arsenal-Jongere has a similar “arrogance” like a young wayne roooney.

And after the radiant version of Lewis-Skelly against Real Madrid in the first stage of their quarterfinals of the Champions League on the Emirates on Tuesday evening, Carragher is already prepared to place him in rare air after a “spectacular” breakthrough campaign under Mikel Arteta.

Lewis-Skelly has now made 29 performances in all competitions and has reduced the first choice of the Gunners. He also earned a senior call-up from England last month and scored on his debut.

“You talk about full back and you think of a kind in Liverpool with Trent, they are a bit different,” said former Liverpool -star Carragher on CBS.

“They are not a normal complete back and you have just said what a young entire back would be. Normally in a large club, when a young player comes through, is the easiest position to get through probably full.

“You (pointing to Micah Richards) did that (in Man City), I did that (in Liverpool). You were put into the game. I am not saying that it is an easy position, but you don't have to be spectacular if you want.

“But he is spectacular on the left and he looks like one of the best players in the Arsenal team. He goes into the central midfield and receives the ball at the half bend. He has Mbappe and Vinicius on both sides of him, he takes responsibility.”

And those qualities reminded Carragher of the legend Rooney of Manchester United, who was convinced early in his career that he was the best player on the field.

“There I go back to football arrogance,” he added. “And it's not about position, it reminds me a little Jude Bellingham at that age and Rooney.

“When Wayne Rooney first came to the English team, it was almost like I'm the best player, give me the ball, no fear, you take the ball in difficult situations.

“When we were young players, it was like you wanted to get your first pass, don't give the ball away, just want to build in a game. But he has that thing as if he is 26 and played his whole life and he is very, very special.”
