Jamie Carragher has weighed in on Mohamed Salah's contract issue at Liverpool as the Egyptian's contract expires next summer.
Following the Reds' 5-0 disposal of West Ham on Sunday, Salah revealed that negotiations are not making any progress at the moment and stressed that he is solely focused on Liverpool's goals on the pitch this season.
“No, we are a long way from that,” he said when asked if there have been any positive updates on the situation.
'I don't want to put something in the media and people start saying things, but actually nothing [has] continued.
'But for now I'm concentrating on the team and hopefully we win the Premier League.'
Despite these comments, Carragher insisted he is not concerned about the future of Salah or Virgil van DIijk, who is also out of contract in the summer of 2025.
'I am now on the podium with Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk [where] I'm not that concerned about it [with] what they say about the situation.
'I expect things will turn out well for those two players. Maybe I'm too optimistic.
'But I don't see a situation where Mo Salah doesn't start at Liverpool next season.'
Earlier this month, Van Dijk was offered a new contract, but there was reportedly no breakthrough in negotiations with the 33-year-old.
Salah sent the Reds fanbase into an uproar last month when he claimed he had not been contacted about a new contract.
Since then, Salah has remained cautious with his words on the situation, recently refusing to reveal the current state of negotiations when asked on Boxing Day.
'I want to tell you [the fans] Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” Salah told Amazon Prime on Thursday. “And I'll see them here in the next game.”
