Carragher ‘not angry, just disappointed’ by Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool departure

Jamie Carragher is disappointed by the decision of Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, because he felt that the Reds are about to do something special.

Alexander-Arnold, who came to the Liverpool academy in 2004, confirmed on Monday that he would leave at the end of the season after the expiry of his contract, with a switch to Real Madrid reportedly agreed.

The International of England has proved 352 times for the Reds in all competitions since he debuted for the Senior Team in 2016 and has won eight large titles with the club, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League title.

Alexander-Arnold will leave Anfield after he has registered more assists (64) than any other defender in the history of Premier League.

Liverpool recently completed the Premier League title in style, and despite early outputs in the Champions League and FA Cup, together with a defeat for Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final, it has been a season to remember under Arne Slot.

Carragher spoke at Sky Sports and claimed that he is not angry, but disappointed in the decision of Alexander-Arnold, especially considering how successful Liverpool has been this season.

“I am not angry, I am just disappointed that as a local player he does not think that Liverpool is close enough to win,” said Carragher.

“We have had players in the past who left for Liverpool teams who were not as good as this Liverpool team.

“But Liverpool is one of the best five or six teams in Europe and can be about to be about something special among this manager in the next five or six years.

“If I was a local player in that position, where I thought I could win competition titles and put Liverpool above Manchester United for competition titles, and I would stay closer to Real Madrid.

“People talk about rivalry in England, but Madrid is a rival of Liverpool in the European Cup.

“Real Madrid is the largest club in the world, and there is a part of me looking at a child from West Derby who is going to play for Real Madrid, and there is just a disappointment because Liverpool is about to have something big.”

Carragher added that the status of Alexander-Arnold as a modern Liverpool-large can be reduced after his decision to leave.

“He will lose something that he now has in terms of the love of Liverpool supporters for him; he will take” one of their own “,” said Carragher.

“Local players are kept in different ways in different ways. Supporters may expect a little more from them in these situations.

“I don't always agree with how local players are treated in certain situations, but my thing with Trent is that it is his career, he is free to choose what he wants to do, and he goes to the largest club in the world.”
