Carragher offers Arteta lifeline as he makes Arsenal and Liverpool comparison

Arsenal stayed in the Premier League, but they brought themselves into a strong position in the Champions League, where the victory mikel arteta would etch in the club's history books

Jamie Carragher insists that the success of the Champions League for Arsenal ensures that “nobody remembers or even cares” that they fail in the Premier League. The Gunners season depends on how they perform in Europe, but they have one foot in the last four.

The side of Mikel Arteta produced a season-best show in midweek when they saw Real Madrid 3-0 in the Emirates to give themselves control over their quarterfinals. Arsenal has known for several weeks that it would take a monumental collapse from Liverpool to win the title.

It means that the North -London outfit will end for second place for the third consecutive season that was done twice by Manchester City. Questions have been asked to Arteta, despite the forward progress that were taken during his arsenal term of office.

The Dip of City opened the door this season, but Liverpool has been much more consistent than Arsenal, who have dropped too many points. However, Carragher maintains that a European triumph would make their almost -missers superfluous -just like for his Liverpool side.

He said in the Telegraph: “If you become European champions, that is everything that matters, especially if you have defeated Real Madrid along the way. No one remembers or even cares about the competition when you win the biggest trophy. State the 2004-05 season to a Liberpool and everything they will talk about, is the memory of the supporter and the memory of the supporter.

Arteta has been a large part of the Renaissance of Arsenal, but his trophy trait has been constantly held against him. The Spaniard delivered the FA Cup in 2020, but since then those in North Londs have not landed silverware despite some heavy investments.

He led the Gunners back to the Champions League and they reached the last eight 12 months ago before they were eliminated by Bayern Munich. A year later and they have control over their quarter -final draw with real need to overcome a shortage of three goals for the first time.

Carragher claimed: “Arsenal needs a miracle to win the Premier League. As long as they prevent Real Madrid from celebrating one of them on Wednesday, they will have the comfort to be three games of one of the greatest performance in the club.”

The Gunners have been in just one European cup final – which returned in 2006 when they were defeated by Barcelona in the Stade de France. A victory for the Premier League outfit would probably darken everything they have achieved in the past and get rid of their recent domestic disappointment.
