Jamie Carragher believes that the shortcomings in the game of William Saliba have been exposed since the center-back partner Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained his seasonal injury.
Gabriel was excluded for the rest of the campaign after stopping the hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory over Fulham on April 1, revealing the club that he would require surgery.
Saliba and Gabriel have formed one of the most impressive defensive partnerships in world football in recent years and the Gunners have trouble losing the Brazilian.
Saliba is considered one of the top defenders in the game by many, but has not looked so comfortable in the absence of his Wingman.
The Frenchman has made some major mistakes, especially against Real Madrid and Crystal Palace, and again looked shaky in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
And Carragher had some words of criticism after the Premier League collision in Anfield ended.
'If you are a centerback. Ok, this guy (Gabriel) next to me is the leader, “he said.
'If he leaves, you must become the leader of that back four and organize people and not just play your own game.
'For me the big center backs, it's not about how good you are and everything you can do. You have to bring about other people.
'Think of Tony Adams and Virgil van Dijk, they are not just great players, they make everyone around them great players.
“That is what I think it is still missing with Saliba. Without Gabriel he doesn't look like the same player and that is not something you want to be labeled.
“I would be ashamed if I played Center-back for Liverpool and people said he is not the same player without him next to him.”
