Carragher suggests ulterior motive for TAA’s Real Madrid transfer

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has detailed his pain in the expected free transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid and his theory about why the player will move to the Bernabeuu

There may be many motivations behind the expected move from Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid-but Jamie Carragher believes that he has worked it all out for a extra-intention.

The right back of Liverpool and England is generally expected to move to the Bernabeu for free when his contract ends in the summer. Alexander-Arnold, 26, is already free to introduce discussions with clubs abroad while approaching the end of his Anfield deal, and the last reports Claims with Real have already been agreed.

There are many reasons why a player of his quality would choose to become a member of Los Blancos, who are omnipresent in the hunt for the biggest prizes in football. But there is a hint that Alexander-Arnold has fallen in the past that Carragher believes that points to the truth of the case.

About why he believes that Alexander-Arnold is leaving the overlap, Carragher said: “I think Trent is a player who almost looks at himself like a brand, and that is not only he, many players do it now.

“I go back to an interview that he gave at Sky Sports for Christmas, where he received five options that he would choose as the most important thing for you – Captain of Liverpool, win the Champions League with Liverpool, win the World Cup with England or win the Ballon d'Or – and he chose the balloon d'Or.

“He wanted to be the first full-back to win the balloon d'Or, and there is nothing wrong with having ambition, but that was not very good with Liverpool supporters.”

The future of Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk-Die each will see their contracts arrived in June if things are being a stain on a different prosperous first term under Arne Slot. The Reds are Shoo-ins to win this year's Premier League title, although their recent outputs of the Champions League and FA Cup have been bitter pills to swallow.

The point was made that those disappointments may not have occurred, were it not for the uncertainty with regard to those three stars that may have been set to leave. And the fact that Liverpool may not receive any compensation for Alexander-Arnold, Salah nor Van Dijk, makes the situation even more difficult to accept.

Carragher – who made 737 performances for Liverpool and won seven large titles, including the Champions League of 2005 – continued with detailed aspects of the move and why fans are upset for various reasons. A recurring theme is the fact that Liverpool receives nothing for a player that she would have to reach huge amounts given his quality and age profile.

But that doesn't bother Carragher. Instead, the retired defender is more focused on the fact that Alexander-Arnold wants to leave at all at a time when the Reds have the opportunity to close to Real Madrid or Manchester United in titles, both in the interior and on the continent.

“I'm not angry that he's going for free,” he went on. “In an ideal world, Liverpool would get £ 70 million or £ 80 million to invest again, but you can't go both sides as a supporter. If Liverpool signed someone for free in the summer, we would all be happy, so that means that his former club should absolutely hate him?

“Even if you are a local player, you will not cost anything – Trent is free as Virgil van Dijk who leaves for £ 75 million, we would still break.

“Where I am, that, if a local player and a fan of Liverpool, are Liverpool in a position where they compete every year for the competition and a European Cup. So if you are a Liverpool fan and a local player, I am simply disappointed that he does not think so.”
