Carragher tears into Champions League co-pundit Richards for his new haircut

Jamie Carragher hilariously attacked Champions League pundit Micah Richards for his new haircut as the Liverpool legend mocked the ex-defender.

Carragher, together with Richards, Thierry Henry and Kate Abdo, once again formed a famous quartet in CBS' coverage of the Champions League in the United States on Tuesday evening.

The group has become known for their light-hearted approach to covering games, often making jokes even if it comes at the expense of themselves, each other and the footballers.

It was the first match of the year on Tuesday evening when Liverpool took on Lille in the Champions League stage. Their 2-1 win meant they have now qualified for the last sixteen.

But the focus wasn't just on football on the CBS show. Almost immediately, Richards' look was questioned as the crew addressed the elephant in the room.

And Carragher was not willing to hold back in his analysis of the look, delivering a brutal assessment and leaving his fellow expert in the lurch.

“New you, who's here?” Abdo asked Richards during the show.

'I look fantastic, don't I? ' he responded.

Carragher then said: 'It doesn't suit you. I say that as a friend.'

Richards burst out laughing, shocked by Carragher's input, and added: “Can't you just say that off the air?”

After Carragher asked why Richards changed his appearance, the ex-Manchester City man explained: 'I, you know. New year, new me.'

Abdo explained that she was a fan of the look and described it as 'nice and crunchy'.

The broadcast then cut to a photo of Richards' former appearance next to his new one, and Carragher said, “Honestly, you look awful.” You look so cool on the other one. Not cool. Why did you do that?'

After Carragher called him an 'act' for wearing contact lenses instead of glasses, Richards said he was 'more than happy' with the look and didn't cast a vote to find out what the general reaction was .

Abdo wondered if he had had a hair transplant, to which Richards replied: “I haven't been to Turkey, not a chance.”

In a poll asking CBS followers on

After Carragher continued to insist that Richards had had a transplant, they responded to the poll, with Richards saying: 'Way to undermine someone's confidence. I tried, but it didn't work, right?'

Carragher then pulled out a measuring tape and insisted: 'Something isn't right.' He measured two and a half inches between Richards' eyebrows and his hairline, and insisted he measure again at a later date.
