Carragher tells fans to ‘got your Spurs back’ & blasts Postecoglou’s strugglers

Jamie Carragher sent a sobering message to Spurs supporters after Sunday's shock 3-2 win over Everton, telling them: 'You've got your Tottenham back'.

Ange Postecoglou's side suffered another disappointing defeat after a dismal first-half performance at Goodison Park as the Toffees went into half-time with a three-goal lead.

Spurs dropped to 15th in the Premier League, further exacerbating a miserable start to the season in terms of results.

Despite all of Tottenham's problems, Postecoglou's side are sometimes praised for their high-risk, high-reward approach as they are very entertaining to watch.

Spurs fans initially celebrated Postecoglou's arrival as his attacking style contrasted significantly with the philosophies favored by former coaches Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.

As the pressure mounted on Postecoglou, Carragher sent a sobering message to Tottenham fans to remind them exactly what they were asking for.

'I like that Postecoglou comes to Tottenham and the Tottenham fans said: 'we have our Tottenham back'. I understand that because of what they saw under Conte and Jose Mourinho,” he said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.

'They have their Tottenham back. Great goalscorers, terrible defensively, can't keep a clean sheet. And in fact, they are the team I have described as the most entertaining team in the Premier League, which is why I want to watch week in, week out.

'But they have their Tottenham back and that's what most people remember Tottenham as a team that plays, scores goals, is beautiful to the eye, but they have no steel in them.'

The Liverpool legend repeatedly called Tottenham a 'mess' during his commentary shift on Sunday.

He said: 'It's like watching a children's academy team where they just keep playing the same way and the coach keeps saying 'don't worry, keep doing it. Results don't matter'.

'It's a mess. Tarkowski gets his chance on the earlier set piece and he comes back in. It's just too bad for Archie Gray. All he has to do is throw his leg at it. It's coming at him very quickly.

'You can't be beaten 3-0 at half-time against Everton. It could have been worse. This is a mess.'

The defeat at Everton was Tottenham's twelfth from 22 league games this season, with a huge test against Leicester this weekend.

Despite mounting pressure on his future, Postecoglou insisted he has not lost faith and claimed he is optimistic his side will turn around their poor form.

'No, it doesn't. If you look at the situation we are in, it will eventually go away. I certainly hope and believe in it,” the Spurs boss said on Sunday.

'We give ourselves the opportunity to achieve consistency in performance and results. I certainly haven't lost faith or determination to turn the tide and the players showed in the second half that they haven't either.”
