Andy Carroll was at £ 80,000 a week during his time in Liverpool, but he now earns under the French minimum wage for a full -time employee
The 36-year-old striker, who cost Liverpool £ 35 million when she signed him from Newcastle in 2011, is currently playing for Bordeaux in the fourth level of France.
A report from newspaper L'Equipe revealed this week that Carroll only earns € 1,614 gross per month at Bordeaux, which is less than € 1,400 after tax.
That figure is under the French minimum wage of € 1,801.80 gross for a working week of 35 hours, which means that Carroll is officially classified as a part -time employee at the club.
The modest deal of Carroll reflects the current financial struggles of Bordeaux.
The six -time French champions were violently relegated to National 2 after declaring bankruptcy last year.
But Carroll – who scored 54 goals for Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham during his Premier League career – is apparently happy with his modest income.
In an interview with L'Equipe earlier this season, he said: 'I rent a nice little house and my salary is less than my rent. If I came to Bordeaux, it is clearly not for the money. '
Carroll has scored eight goals so far, with this campaign, with seven more games in the competition.
He could earn a € 2,000 bonus if he reaches ten goals or assists combined.
Although his professional circumstances have changed dramatically, Carroll's personal life has also undergone an important transformation.
The former Premier League star now goes out with the famous make -up artist Lou Teasdale, who officially made the Instagram relationship during Christmas.
In recent months, the couple has enjoyed romantic holidays and outings, including a ski trip to Megeve in the French Alps to celebrate Andy's birthday.
Lou, 41, recently placed a sincere tribute to Carroll on social media and called him “my favorite person I once met.”
Carroll's relationship with Teasdale comes after his split by wife Billi Muclow, whom he married in 2022 after an eight -year -old engagement.
The couple confirmed their divorce last September afterwards to secretly separate. They had been together for 11 years.
In an interview with The Times at the end of last year, Carroll flowed over his new partner and her charity nature and revealed how she released Christmas volunteer work to help the elderly and how she supports LGBTQ+ causes.
