CELTIC CONFIDENTIAL: English clubs ready to poach Celtic’s young goal sensation
Celtic have yet to offer a contract extension to coveted teenage striker Daniel Cummings.
His contract expired this summer and the 18-year-old scored his fifth goal in five UEFA Youth League games to help Club Brugge win 1-0 last week.
The teenager also scored 22 goals in 20 appearances for Parkhead's youth team this season.
Brentford, Wolves, Fulham, Ipswich, Sunderland and Burnley are among a group of English clubs who have checked in on the forward.
After losing Rocca Vata to Watford and Daniel Kelly to Millwall last summer, Celtic decided to sign Francis Turley and Colby Donovan to new deals.
However, despite his prolific goals and interest from down south, Cummings has not yet received an offer to stay put and is free to speak to interested clubs from January 1.
As Celtic Confidential reported last week, Brendan Rodgers is keen to find a younger third striker as a back-up for Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah.
Asked about Cummings last month, the Celtic boss warned that goals alone will not be enough to secure a first-team opportunity.
'It's your mentality. It's your professionalism. All of those things, along with skills, will get you an opportunity,” Rodgers said.
'In terms of Daniel's performances and his goals in his matches, he has done very well. But like I said, there are a lot of factors I take into account when signing a young player. Ability is the first thing I look at, but your attitude and commitment are just as important.'
Celtic could expect to receive between £230,000 and £330,000 in training compensation if Cummings eventually leaves.
Celtic will win a £7.3 million jackpot if Frimpong joins the ranks of England's big players
Manchester City have become the latest club to be linked with a major move for Jeremy Frimpong.
And a return to the Etihad Stadium for the Netherlands international could earn Celtic a cool £7.3million.
Neil Lennon brought the 23-year-old to Glasgow for a bargain £300,000 when he signed him from City in 2019.
Frimpong left for Bayer Leverkusen two years later on an £11.75 million contract and has now emerged as one of the most coveted talents in European football.
The full-back is part of the squad that won the Bundesliga and reached the Europa League final and has been linked with a move to Liverpool if Trent Alexander-Arnold fails to sign a new contract.
And now that Kyle Walker is 34, Manchester City are considering a move to bring Frimpong back to the club where he grew up.
Interested clubs will have to meet a £34 million release clause, and Celtic have cleverly built in a sell-on clause that guarantees 30 percent of Bayer Leverkusen's future profits.
When asked about the possibility of him returning to the Etihad Stadium last year, Frimpong told Marca: “It would be great, but I don't know. They have just won the Champions League and are the best team in the world. We'll see in the future.'
Rodgers is not giving up on the offside Palma yet
Brendan Rodgers insists he is in no rush to push winger Luis Palma towards the Celtic exit.
Reports suggest the Honduran international is attracting interest from MLS clubs and could leave in January.
Rodgers is looking for a new left-sided attacker in the winter period. After last Saturday's 5-0 defeat to Ross County, the third matchday squad from which he was absent, Palma has now slipped behind Nicolas Kuhn, Daizen Maeda, James Forrest and Yang Hyun-Jun in the pecking order.
Addressing speculation about the wide man's future, Rodgers said: 'I haven't seen anything about that. But there's really nothing to comment on. Luis hasn't played much lately. He is still part of the team. There is nothing else left. He's a good guy, it's been hard for him.
'Players have come into his position and done very well. If you look at Maeda's target return this year. The pressing, especially this side of it. And then he was out injured for a few weeks.
“Yang comes in and does really well. But Luis works hard every day. He is very popular within the team. Of course I can only choose a certain number of players. He will continue to work and may get an opportunity as we move forward.”
This digital sales pitch deserves to be heard
Celtic's decision to rent out digital, virtual parts of the Parkhead pitch to supporters for £29.99 a year – £49.99 for three years – provoked a fierce online backlash.
And football finance expert Kieran Maguire is the latest to join those adding their voice to the dissent.
Maguire, co-host of the Price of Football podcast, expressed his scathing views on the joint partnership between the Parkhead club and Sportli on social media.
“For this amount you get a PDF saying you are the owner and of course your friends will be impressed when you frame it in the toilet,” he wrote.
'In other news, I'm offering an online course on how to avoid being fooled on the Internet. Send your details and payment to [email protected]. The first 1,000 registrants will receive a 50 per cent discount on the normal price of £499.99.' Ouch.
Bernabei is considering its options after the Brazilians lost their title opportunity
Alexandro Bernabei saw his Brazilian title hopes go up in smoke this weekend – and now he is sweating to see if he will return to the Celtic reserves.
The 24-year-old Argentine has less than a month left in his loan spell at Porto Alegre-based Internacional and suffered last Sunday as a 3-2 defeat at Flamengo ended a 16-match unbeaten run and any remaining ambitions to score. table tops Botafogo.
Bernabei still has two games left before his short-term loan expires later this month, but club bosses are now looking for inventive ways to extend his stay.
With Celtic reportedly looking for £8m for the left-back, and Internacional unable to reach those kind of figures, local reports suggest negotiations could soon center around a large sell-on clause of up to 50 per cent. to the Scottish champions in an attempt to reduce the transfer fee.
More likely, however, is an attempt to extend the loan deal, but Cruzeiro is also one of several South American sides taking note of the Bernabei's recent form and that is likely to see Celtic hold out to see if a permanent deal can be secured elsewhere can be closed. .
Internacional goalkeeper Sergio Rochet admits he has helped Bernabei, who provided an assist at Flamengo despite a tough 90 minutes, to keep his mind off his future.
'I'm very respectful. I don't like to talk to players about staying or leaving,” Rochet said.
“I spoke to Bernabei as a friend and I'm trying to help him stay focused. That shouldn't get in the way on the field. We have to end the year as well as possible.'
