Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Arsenal star Kieran Tierney will eventually return to the club this summer, whereby the contract of the left back ends at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old joined Arsenal for a reported £ 25 million in 2019 and was the club's first choiceback for the first few seasons before he fell into the pecking order. The Scottish star entered loan last season at Real Sociedad and played only five games this period.
There had been speculation that Tierney could finally leave the club in the transfer star of January after having held only 101 minutes in this campaign and Rodgers confirmed that Celtic had received a deal to sign it.
Speaking for the Champions League trip from the club to Aston Villa on Wednesday, Rodgers said: “Ideally, it would be (place in January), but he is still an Arsenal player at the moment.
“I think everyone is agreed who will certainly take place in the summer. If we can do it in advance, then it is great.”
Tierney initially lost its place in the Oleksandr Zinchenko team, but after the arrival of left back Riccardo Calafiori this summer he slipped even further from the plans of Arteta.
His time in Noord -London has been destroyed by injury problems, with a total of ten fitness issues in the past six years.
He emerged in the dying minutes of their 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday, but has not started on December 18 since the 3-2 victory over Palace in the Carabao Cup on December 18.
It was reported that Celtic had opened conversations with Tierney about a pre-contractual agreement and now the Scotland International gets the chance to add to the enormous success he enjoyed with his boys' club.
Tierney made 170 performances for Celtic between 2014 and 2019 and won the Scottish Premiership four times. He also won two Scottish cups and two competition cups.
At Arsenal he would win the FA Cup in 2019-2020, because he won a total of 129 performances for the Gunners.
