Cesc Fabregas has given Dele Alli a boost as the former England star begins his trial at Como FC in his bid to revive his career.
Alli, 28, trained with the Serie A club – which is managed by Spanish legend Fabregas – this week after parting ways with Everton.
The former Tottenham midfielder has not played a competitive match since February 2023 during a loan spell at Turkish club Besiktas and announced his departure from the Toffees last week after just 13 appearances in almost three years.
But Alli has been given a lifeline by Fabregas, who invited him to train with his squad in northern Italy and the former Arsenal and Chelsea star has been impressed with what he has seen so far.
“He is training with us now,” Fabregas said.
'Dele is feeling good. He's a great player. If we can help him, we'll be more than happy. He currently only trains with us…'
Although Fabregas quickly cooled any talk of an impending deal, the warm words will no doubt encourage Alli, who has played in a Champions League final and a World Cup semi-final.
Last week, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Fabregas was considering signing Alli and wanted to take a closer look at him.
Como FC currently hover just one point above the relegation zone in 16th place with an important match against 15th-placed Lecce on Monday.
Alli remains confident he can return from the wilderness and revealed earlier this year that he was targeting a place at the 2026 World Cup with England.
Alli previously played as a regular in England and played at the 2016 European Championship and the World Cup in Russia two years later, but has not featured since his 37th international appearance five years ago.
