With the Continental Club promotion of this season completed with three dramatic European finals, all eyes now turn to the extensive FIFA Club World Cup, which will crown the best club team in the world over six federations.
In anticipation of the final of the Champions League, Dazn caught up with three Champions League -Clubcaptains in – 2024/25 winner Marquinhos, finalist Lautaro Martinez and the legendary former Real Madrid Madrid Sergio Ramos – to get their opinion to the coming Clubwereldwerelder
PSG Captain Marquinhos has conquered Europe last weekend and will now focus on leading the Parisians in their very first FIFA Club World Cup campaign. He looks forward to keeping teams from all over the world and does not take on their challenge.
“It is a tournament that all clubs really want to play in. The new format is very interesting, in which all major clubs participate in teams with which they are normally not confronted.” Said Marquinhos.
“We know it will be a long and difficult way, with severe competition, but we can't wait to see how the tournament unfolds.”
Marquinhos is convinced that his club will take on the challenge of their global rivals, because PSG hopes to continue their title -winning form. “PSG always focuses high. As a team I think we have shown how much stronger we have become, our philosophy.
“We always strive to fight in every tournament we participate in, to fight for the trophy and for the first place on stage.”
For Inter Milan skipper Lautaro Martinez, whose side has made the Champions League final this season, the competition offers the opportunity to show the history and prestige of the club.
“For me, Inter has so much history and it is so great that we always have to strive as high as possible. Of course we know that there will be difficult times – we have opponents to beat.
“So sometimes things stand in the way, but the most important thing is that we always do our best for Inter and try to become inter as possible in every competition in which we play.”
In the meantime, Martinez wants the club to take the lead of its avid supporters and shows exactly what it means for the players to represent the club.
“Inter is all about passion. For me that is the keyword I think of when I talk about inter. Passion. For the shirt, the club, the badge. And prove people that every weekend here in Italy, and I think they will prove that in the United States.”
The legendary former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, a four-time Champions League winner who became the first player to provide a side of a side of back-to-back titles in the competition, wants to add an honor to his trophy cabinet.
After he has also won the Club World Cup four times, he was again excited to set himself up against the world's best for his current club, Monterrey. “I have always been enthusiastic about playing the best clubs, and here we will see a healthy but very competitive rivalry. Our goal is to set up a good show and try to get out of the group stage,” he says.
In the chance that Monterrey will make a surprise of more established names, Ramos adds: “In this kind of competition, just like the World Cup, there are always teams that make everyone upset and surprise everyone, so it depends on many things.”
Ramos expects on a carnival atmosphere in the US and expects the traveling fans of Monterrey to show what the Mexican club means to them. “Well, above all the fans have so much passion. When I came here, I got to know those fans, and the emotion they have is very similar to that of the Argentinian League.
“They feel things very deep – your mood depends on whether your team has won.”
