Champions League star pays touching tribute after overcoming personal heartbreak

Davide Fratesi scored a dramatic late winner for Inter Milan in the first stage of their quarterfinals of the Champions League against Bayern Munich the day after his grandmother died

Inter Milan -midfielder Davide Frattesi paid tribute to his deceased grandmother after scoring the winning goal for the Italian side against Bayern Munich. Inter claimed a 2-1 win in Bavaria in the first stage of their quarterfinals of the Champions League thanks to the late strike by Frattesi.

The smart finish of Lautaro Martinez of the rear heel of Marcus Thuram raised the road with 1-0, but veteran attacker Thomas Muller accelerated for Bayern with five minutes. Inter then arose the perfect counterattack, with Carlos Augusto who crosses from the left for Fratteni to score a dramatic winner.

The midfielder celebrated by tearing off his shirt and sprinting over his face to the corner flag. It was his sixth goal of the season for Inter, but by far the most important – and then pronounced, he explained why it had even more meaning after his grandmother died the day before.

“In my life I always thought that my best quality was my way of thinking. I was in a situation where I couldn't continue on my usual path,” Fratesi Inter TV said.

“I was very close to my grandmother and was not used to seeing her like that. It was difficult, but I know she is somehow involved tonight. Maybe she welcomes me there.”

The 25-year-old also placed a snap of him who fourth with his shirt out on Instagram and wrote: “I know you have a few shouts there, my dearest. Nowadays I want to thank everyone for the affection, you gave me one of you as real. Come on inter.”

Inter has built their Champions League run on their Rock-Solid defense, which only admitted three goals in 11 games. They are organizing Bayern in the second stage next Wednesday, with a draw against the winner of Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund who is waiting in the semi -final.

“We will try to attack even more, and we have to attack well if we succeed in restoring the possession, as we did tonight for the second goal,” Frattesi added. “We have to play well and be relentless.”

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany tried to maintain a positive view, despite the disappointment of the first stage. “It's the peace, it's 2-1 for Inter and we have to go to Milan to win,” he said. “We lost and we had our chances in both halves, but the results are not always fair.”

“If you see how many chances we had against a defensive internal inter. We normally score these opportunities two or three goals. We still believe completely in our chances in Milan.”

Inter -boss Simone Inzaghi said: “We went toe with them in determination, courage and aggression. We did something remarkable, but it doesn't matter unless we do it for our fans in the second stage in San Siro.”
