Championship: Cardiff relegated as Millwall keep play-off hopes alive

Cardiff City is banned from the championship after playing a scoreless draw with West Bromwich Albion in the capital of Wales on Saturday.

The result leaves the Bluebirds bottom of the table and five points of safety with one match to play, so that their return to League One is sealed for the first time since 2003.

Cardiff only played their second game under interim boss Aaron Ramsey after the Omer Riza has been fired, and created a few promising opportunities in a desperate attempt to keep their survival hopes alive, so that a victory was needed after Luton Town Coventry City had defeated earlier on Saturday.

Yousef Salech hit the woodwork in the 60th minute, while Adam Armstrong of West Brom wasted a golden chance on the other side.

The draw extends Cardiff's Winless Run to seven games, while West Brom, who played under Interim -Baas James Morrison after the dismissal of Tony Mowbray, are now undefeated in the last eight meetings of the teams (three victories, five draw).

Elsewhere, Derby County took a late 1-0 win over Hull City in the MKM stage, giving her a huge boost to their hope to avoid the drop.

Nathaniel Phillips was the hero and aroused a dramatic winner of Craig Forsyth's PinPoint delivery six minutes in time.

The result drags the hull in the drop zone and they are relegated when they lose on the 16th Portsmouth placed on the last matchday.

Elsewhere Plymouth Argyle achieved a spicy 2-1 win over Preston North End in Deepdale, which means that the own relegation fears of their hosts deepen, although Argyle is almost no longer because of their poor target difference.

Mustapha Bundu continued his fine shape and opened the score in the 14th minute with a brilliant top corner finish after combination with Bali Mumba.

Callum Wright added a second with a sweet volley in the 75th minute, before Emil Riis Jakobsen took a late consolation objective for Preston on the stroke of full -time.

Bundu has now contributed to five goals in its last three games in the championship and takes four goals and an assist.

Preston floats a point above the relegation zone, with a difficult trip to Bristol City awaiting them on the last day.

The results of Saturday also mean that Stoke City is not out of relegation danger, although the potters only need a point at Derby to confirm their second-tier status.

Further on the table, Millwall kept their play-off hope alive with a 1-0 victory over Swansea City at De Den den, which ended the undefeated run of six games of the visitors.

George Saville yielded the vital goal to keep Millwall's slim hope for promotion intact and leaves a driven shot low in the middle of the net late in the first half.

Josh Coburn missed a chance to double the lead, while Swansea remained frustrated by waste for the goal, in particular from EOM Ji-Sung and Zan Vipotnik.

In the meantime, Oxford United secured their championship status with a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Kassam Stadium.

Ben Nelson opened the score with a guided header from a set piece, and Michal Helik sealed the result with a well -driven volley early in the second half.

Sunderland remained frustrated by the resilient defense of Oxford, where the hosts impressively held an opponent without a shot on goal for the first time this competition season.

Debrief data: Millwall on the right side of fine margins

Millwall was one of the big winners of Saturday's games, and they are now right on points with sixth placed Coventry with one more match.

Their 1-0 win marked their 12th through that score this season than any other championship side.

In total they can now be seen in 20 games that end with a 1-0 score (won 12, Lost Eight)-most in the competition.
