Championship club to hold talks with Tottenham coach Ryan Mason to take over as manager after Tony Mowbray sacked

Tottenham -coach Ryan Mason is in conversation to become the manager of championship equipment West Brom, according to reports.

Mason, 33, would be the number 1 target for the baggies this summer.

West Brom Chiefs fired previous boss Tony Mowbray in April.

That decision came after a disastrous series of one win in four games at the end of the season, they saw the play-offs missing, eventually won by Sunderland.

Mason has been a coach at Tottenham since 2018 after his retirement with a serious head injury, initially started in the youth ranks before moving to the Senior Side.

The former midfielder survived a number of big names in the North London Club, namely Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

Mason was also an important part of the back room staff of the current manager Ange Postecoglou, who led traces to their first trophy in 17 years at the Europa League.

According to the Telegraph, West Brom wants their new boss to be appropriate well before the preseason and had conversations with various candidates about the position.

The Hawthorns outfit, however, was set to offer Mason the track after the last match of Spurs of the Premier League season against Brighton -which ended in a 4-1 defeat.

Mason secured its UEFA-PRO license two years ago and is linked to management posts in Andershecht and Swansea.

But his only experience as a top coach came as an interim manager at Spurs, with managing 13 games in two spells.

West Brom is looking for their third boss since February 2024, when the Florida -based businessman Shilen Patel took over the club.

The Summer Recruitment Drive is led by sports director Andrew Nestor.

West Brom made the play-offs by ending fifth in the championship last year under Carlos Corberan, although he left the club in December 2024 to become a member of La Liga Outfit Valencia.

Mowbray was then appointed as his permanent successor for his second enchantment that was in charge of the team, but lasted only three months.

The club was last in the top flight in the 2020/21 season that came after they had earned automatic promotion by finishing second in the championship.
