Match report
The Blues took a deserved lead in the 23rd minute through Spanish youngster Marc Guiu, who scored his fourth goal of the competition with a close-range header after Rovers had given up possession in their own half.
But Rovers would immediately fight back three minutes later through Markus Poom, with the Estonian ripping a half-volley from inside the penalty area and past Filip Jörgensen after his effort was deflected through Cesare Casadei.
Guiu would bag his brace shortly afterwards, but after a second catastrophic error at the back gifted the youngster his brace on the night before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall made it 3-1 five minutes before half-time.
As a former La Masia graduate, expectations are high for Guiu following his summer move to the Blues, and his performance tonight could give Maresca something to think about as he completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes of stoppage time.
Marc Cucurella got in on the action alongside his compatriot after scoring against Brentford last weekend, making it 5-1 with a right-footed effort from just inside the penalty area in the 58th minute.
Fortunately for Rovers, the Blues were unable to find sixth place in the closing minutes.
With tonight's result, Chelsea end group play at the top of the pile as they hold off Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães, and look set to continue their form against Everton this weekend.
As for Rovers, Bradley's men must pass a play-off test before progressing to the knockout stages, but luckily for them they are in line to be one of the seeded teams.
