'These are difficult games and we are confronted with very strong teams. We always strive to achieve our goals, what the titles are. '
After playing 5,850 minutes of football in the year early July 2024 – more than any keeper once played in one year – Fabio could increase the distance between himself and Shilton at the top of the performances Leaderboard.
He signed a contract earlier this summer and kept him with Fluminese until December 2026, at what time he will be 46, which means that the keeper has enough time to add to his count.
Fabio is also above Cristiano Ronaldo (1283 minutes), Paul Bastock (1284 minutes) and Rogerio Ceni (1226) in terms of performances, despite never attracting the famous yellow of Brazil.
Shilton, whose record has now been broken of course, spoke earlier about his lifetime in the game and said it is one of his greatest sources of pride.

'Winning 125 caps for England is next to it and the other is the joint record of the least world cup goals admitted to Fabien Barthez. That would clearly have been the record if it hadn't been for a certain gentleman, Maradona. '
