Liam Delap is ready to leave Ipswich for £ 30 million when the transfer window is opened, but his destination remains unclear with Chelsea and Manchester United Vechten it out
Manchester United is confronted this summer with serious competition for Liam Delap, with Chelsea ready to go against his signature. Delap is ready to leave the city of Ipswich after their relegation from the Premier League and is generally expected to be one of the first deals that will be done when the transfer window will be opened on 1 June – but its destination remains unclear.
The 22-year-old striker has attracted attention by contributing 12 goals and two assists in 35 Premier League matches for Ipswich this season. He has proven his assets, despite playing in a wrestling side, and his £ 30 million release clause has been activated by the relegation of Ipswich.
The fact that he will leave and how much does not question, but whether he goes to United of Chelsea is in the air. Despite their terrible domestic campaign this season, it seemed as if Delap preferred a switch over Chelsea.
He was reserved for a double movement worth £ 92.5 million alongside Wolves' Matheus Cunha van Wolves, with Ruben Amorim desperate to get reinforcements in the front.
But the decision of Delap could be influenced by the result of the Europa League final, where United Face Tottenham next Wednesday for a piece of silverware and a place in the Champions League of next season.
Chelsea, on the other hand, is fifth in the Premier League with two more games to play and are therefore ready to qualify for the Champions League. The sun reports that the blues also have the advantage in the form of Enzo Maresca, who coached Delap during his time in the Academy of Manchester City.
In the meantime, the recruitment director of Chelsea, Joe Shields, played a role in sealing Delap's relocation from Derby to City's Academy in 2019.
Did you say! Which club should Liam Delap choose this summer? Respond below.
Just like United, Chelsea needs a striker, with Nicolas Jackson the only Senior Center-Forward in the Maresca team. Delap should therefore have faith in securing the playing time at Stamford Bridge if he would choose West Londs above Manchester.
His Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna does not doubt that he needs what is needed to succeed in a top club – although he still wants to hold him. “As I said before, I think there is certainly a possibility that he is an Ipswich player next year,” he said last month.
“I don't think something has been decided in someone's thoughts. But can Liam play for the biggest clubs in the country, the biggest clubs in the world? He can certainly do that. I fully believe that.
“He has already shown the impact that he can have at Premier League level in a team that really fought for everything. I think he can have an excellent impact at this level.
“He is happy and he is developing very well here. He has the potential. I think he will do some real, really good things in his career.”
