Chelsea fans in meltdown as club announce star’s free transfer to Liverpool

Chelsea recently won the UEFA Conference League and succeeded it with the FIFA World Club Cup – but the admin for their Women's Team account on Twitter will not win any prizes for Friday's Shenanigans

It was an interesting joke – but maybe Chelsea will not do the same in the future.

In a social media post on Twitter of the club's official account, Chelsea FC women announced the transfer from Sam Kerr to Liverpool. Cue Meltdown among supporters.

The statement, beaten at 1.45 pm, did not come with a preamble. No warning. It just stated: “Sam Kerr has joined Liverpool with a permanent transfer.” Answers arrived immediately, supporters shocked and stunned by the news.

“Stop the admin, my heart stopped for a few seconds,” wrote a fan. “That is unacceptable,” said another. “WHAT????????” A third declared.

Needless to say, fans were not particularly satisfied with the thought of one of their biggest stars – albeit someone who missed almost the entire last season due to injuries – to join a big rival.

Within three minutes, clarification of the Chelsea manager arrived that it had actually been a joke and that the captain of Matildas – who came to Chelsea at Chelsea in 2020 – did not actually go anywhere.

They quoted Liverpool's post and announced the permanent signing of the Scottish namesake Sam Kerr from Bayern Munich – who has been on loan since January – with the caption; “Ohhhhh, you thought …”

“Okay, that was a stressful few seconds, not going to lie!” explained one comment.

“Had me for a moment …” said another. A third joke: “This is July !!! We are no longer in April !!”

Of course, this being Twitter of Elon Musk, – Ahem, X – There are still many messages that come to the first message, unable to believe that Chelsea's Kerr will be moved further.

Wonder if the men's account will try this soon with Cole Palmer?
