Chelsea had ‘record transfer offer’ rejected by Premier League rival in January

Chelsea's efforts to sign Nottingham Forest -defender Murillo in January were short, with reports that claimed that Forest had been passed on what a record compensation would have been for one of their players.

Brazilian center-back Murillo has the core of a surprisingly impressive season under Nuno Espirito Santo. His collaboration with Nikola Milenkovic at the back helped Nuno's side to climb to third place alongside the third best defensive record in the competition.

The 22-year-old cost about £ 10 million when he came to Forest from Corinthians in 2023, and his form brought this term for the first time senior international recognition. Murillo was part of the Dorival Junior team for a few world cup qualifications against Venezuela and Uruguay in November, although he was unable to move Arsenal's Gabriel or Paris Saint-Germain Captain Marquinhos.

It was perhaps little surprise that interest arrived in January. Liverpool joined Chelsea in connection with the defender, although it was the last to test the forest's solution – albeit in vain.

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea's offer arrived in the window early. Although the exact amount of the bid has not been made public, it is supposed to be more than the £ 47.5 million forest from Tottenham for Brennan Johnson in the summer of 2023.

The same publication indicates that owner Evangelos Marinakis had no plans to express an offer of any amount for Murillo. Indeed, the star born in Sao Paulo had indeed agreed a contract extension later in January and committed his future to Bos until 2029.

“We dream great, and he too. He believes in the power of what we do at this great club,” said Marinakis when the new deal of the defender was confirmed. “When we share the same daring ambitions, there is no limit to what we can achieve together.”

Chelsea and Forest were both busy on the Deadline Day of Transfer, and indeed through the window, albeit with more outs than ins. Forest allowed Borrowing from James Ward-Prowse to return to Parent Club West Ham, while the new signature Tyler Bindon is allowed on loan until the summer to stay on loan.

Chelsea confirmed the loan outputs for Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi on Deadline Day, after they had previously sent Renato Veiga on loan to Juventus. Another Serie A switch was also officially made on Tuesday, with Joao Felix spent the rest of the season in AC Milan.

Forest Sit One Place and Fourt Points for Chelsea in the Premier League table, with 14 more games, after both victories had demanded during the final round of competitions. Nuno's side rode on Saturday lunch to a 7-0 win over Brighton, with Chelsea from Enzo Maresca who came from behind to West Ham on Monday evening.
