It is little secret that as soon as Real Madrid has finished tackling their backline this summer, their next priority will be to find a midfielder. With Martin Zubimendi on his way to Arsenal, there is no clear candidate, but reports in Argentina believe that Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez is the one they have put on their sights on.
A number of names have been linked to Los Blancos in recent weeks, including people like Tijjani Reijnders and Angelo Stiller, but unlike people like Alvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen and Alexander-Aarnold, there has been much less clarity on who they focus on who they are focusing on. A flurry of reports in Argentina has reported that Fernandez is top of their wish list.
The 24-year-old has been periodically linked to Real Madrid in recent months, and even Atletico Madrid, but those links have been performed in Argentina. As included by MD, Gustavo Mendez claimed that Fernandez and his partner are looking for a house in Madrid. Julian Alvarez from Atletico apparently also recommended an area for them. Mendez also says that personal conditions between the two have been agreed.
Despite those reports, Ben Jacobs has tempered every hope by Madridistas. He says that the blues do not intend to sell Fernandez, and every bid should be far north of the € 121 million that Chelsea has paid for his services. Although Los Blancos is looking for a midfielder, it seems unlikely that draining is such a high bid.
Chelsea has previously issued a 'hands off' warning to Real Madrid about Fernandez, who has a contract in London until 2032, which means that any pressure should come for a movement of the player or the blues. Los Blancos may have to look somewhere else.
