Chelsea player ratings: Caicedo dominates but Cucurella spoils his display

CHELSEA closed the gap at the top of the league with a 2-1 West London derby victory over Brentford.

Marc Cucurella made amends for going over the line twice in the run-up to two Spurs goals last week by scoring against the Bees.

Nicolas Jackson then added a second, with the three points leaving the Blues just two points clear of Liverpool, who have a game in hand, at the top of the table.

This is how SunSport rated Chelsea's performance.

Robert Sanchez-7

Capable of making big mistakes but also great saves and made several tonight. One of his better night jobs.

Malo Gusto-7

A class act and strong for this team both physically and mentally. Chelsea are currently not even missing captain Reece James.

Levi Colwill-7

Made a crucial block to deny Damsgaard in the style of Chelsea legend John Terry. A solid performance.

Tosin Adaribioyo-6

Great power to play, after also playing in minus 11 degrees Celsius on Thursday in Kazakhstan. Injuries to defenders Badiashile and Fofana put pressure on him and he did his best.

Marc Cucurella-4

Great run and header for the first goal, but then completely spoiled himself with terrible gamesmanship. And then reckless to get two yellow cards from the field within a few minutes.

Moises Caicedo-8

So neat and tidy with his tackling and control of midfield. Chelsea dominated possession and that was largely down to this guy physically.

Enzo Fernandez-7

It looked calm and provided some nice passing moves to connect the midfield and attack. Also composed.

Noni Madueke-6

Great left cross to set up Cucurella's goal. Dynamic on the run, but was caught off guard a few times.

Cole Palmer-6

A powerful shot was saved in the first half, but otherwise a quiet night for this team's standout.

Jadon Sancho-6

He slowly regained his position in the first team after falling out of favour. Nifty footwork in the second half almost resulted in the goal that would have decided this match much sooner.

Nicolas Jackson-7

Tasty finish for what was ultimately the winner, but also squandered a chance in the first half. But a decisive goal that keeps Chelsea on the winning line.

subtitles:

Christoper Nkunku (for Jackson 83 minutes) – 5

I didn't get much time to make an impact. Chelsea were on the back foot for the run-in.
