Chelsea played a scoreless draw in Brentford and failed to establish a safe distance from sixth place.
In a victory, the blues would have seen four points ahead of Aston Villa, which still insist on a late top-five finish in the Premier League.
A victory would also have seen the West Londoners climb to just two points away from the third placed Nottingham Forest.
A litany of errors on the back and the failure to absorb their chances, however, led to a 0-0 draw with the bees in the Gtech Community Stadium.
Brentford could have taken the victory if it was not for their own inability to finish against Chelsea, who are spoiled for choice when choosing the player with the most diapointing performance.

Robert Sanchez – 5
Some nervy reactions when the ball was on his feet in the first half when he brought him away twice to Brentford. I was especially lucky when Mikkel Damsgaard stumbled when he was in the area and wasted a huge opportunity that Robert Sanchez created by giving the ball away.
Much better in the second half where he made some important saves and denied a dangerous shot by Bryan Mbeumo.
Malo Gusto – 3
Was booked early for careless and needles Kevin Damage in the first half that Brentford granted a free kick in a dangerous position. Improved defensively in the second half, but did not bring anything extra when he improved.

Had two chances in the first half, but failed to make the best of it. Was especially bad when Malo Gusto set him up for a finish in the Brentford area.
A rather anonymous version other than that before his replacement during the peace that really raises questions about his Stamford Bridge – Completion – did not use his rare chance to start Jackson.

Nicolas Jackson – 5
Much more livelier than Christopher Nunku, because he had a chance in the second half after a beautiful ball from Enzo Fernandez and missed the target before he almost caused one of the mountain-belt. But that was the most that he could do in the second half.
Cole Palmer – 6
Under the many Chelsea replacements that the visitors live brought to life. Had a brilliant curly shot that just missed the target, but was not at his best – something that continues to uncover Chelsea's dependence on his versions.
